Default TOO much boost..

I just got my setup complete and had a baseline tune on the car. I have a turbonetics racegate with the 9 lb. spring in it. I drove the car today and it somehow made 14 lbs of boost and blew a head gasket. Any idea as to why the wastegate would not work. I have the single side vacume port running into the side of the manifold. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It could be the placement or maybe its not large enough for your turbo

Its a turbonetics Racegate Wastegate and the Turbo is a T-76...It's located about 10 inches from the turbo inlet.

are you on crack?

The wastegate goes on the exhaust side of the turbo not the charge.

10" might be a bit far for the 76mm, is the race gate the 38mm or is that the delta gate?

post some pics of hos you have it mounted. Is it rerouted back into the exhaust after it or dumping in the air? All the racegates I have seen from turbonetics have an adjustment on top that will vary the boost also. Is that set right?

It sounds like you might of hooked your vacum line to the wrong port on the wastegate. Do you have pics of the install.

either the position is bad, or the gate is too small, or you have the wrong spring, or you have a vaccum line broken

or you have a really bad leak somewhere on the charge side, but then again you'll feel the boost leak with "less" power and the boost will not be stable. I had that problem when my blow off valve was leaking boost, it would not seal correctly under load (while boosting)

I will try to post pics tomorrow.....The racegate has the 9 lb spring in it....I know their is an adjustment on top but how much will that actually adjust it and how do you know when it is right.

I hooked my vacume line to the side of the wastegate...There is also another port higher up on the wastegate but I understand that you leave this plugged unless you are using a manual boost controller.

And yes the wastegate dumps back into the downpipe.

Here is the only picture I have...I'm not using the vacume port with the blue plug. there is another one you can't see that I'm using. This picture also does not show the dump pipe back into the downpipe.

have you tried to manualy work your wastegate?
hook the different ports up to some air and see if it moves not too much pressure though

1/4" load screw adjustment corresponds to approximately a 3-4psi
change in boost setting.

I believe you need to leave the top port vented to the air and not plugged.
