Default My DIY 6.0L manifold build thread

ok well i am looking to do a DIY turbo build using the 6.0L manifolds a Masterpower T70 Turbo, FMIC, and goodies. it will be on a stock SB with upgraded rod bolts for now...

the build wont actually take place for about a month or so. waiting for the weather to really get nice out so i can ride the bike a lot of the time that the car is down.

With that being said i am starting this thread now to track the progress of the build from today and to keep me motivated.

Ups came on monday and dropped off my 3" IC piping, it is aluminum mandrel bent bought off of Ebay. It all looks real decent i am not sure how the silicon is going to hold up but it actually looks to be of decent quality.

Then today again the big brown truck arrived and on it was my brand new masterpower T70 turbo, Tial 44mm WG, and 50mm BOV. so the things are starting to arrive and i have a tendency to sell them off in lieu of more "important" things so i am posting here with this stuff, like i said, to keep me motivated.

and i have a feeling that

so i will get some asap but i lost the battery to my digi cam so i may have to take them with my phone...

ok, so i already have a couple of questions for you guys....

A. my outlet on the turbo is only 2.5inch but all my piping and soon to be my intercooler is 3 in.. of course i can get a stepped silicon fitting... this going to be a problem?

B. the outlet on this turbo is 3in. i was thinking 3.5In downpipe, another question of how will this work?

Thanks
Louie

you should just get a 2.5-3" silicon adapter, that will cause no problems

if you do a 3.5" downpipe, then you should step is with an exhaust adapter (increasing radius pipe) as soon as possible or your clearance allows you.

ok, that all sounds good, thanks.

so i should start off with a 3inch downpipe at first then, and use an exhaust adapter to step up, or can i just use 3.5in piping and a 3 inch vband? will it work that way?

does anyone know if there is a good way to just jump to the larger sized 3.5 inch pipe right off of the turbo?

this is your best bet, you could cut off the section you dont need taking up less room

ok, i was thinking about a couple of different things that i would try.. all things that i assume have been tried before so instead of reinventing the wheel i figured i would ask...
i figured that the nice transition would help with airflow i am sure, and i dont know how a 3 inch opening just dumping into a 3.5 inch opening would affect airflow characteristics so i suppose i will cut of the little extensions on both sides and vband the one side, and weld a 90* 3.5 inch pipe or whatever group of them i will need in order to get the downpipe to take the place of the AC.

Thanks
Louie

and the prices on that site are actually pretty good from what i have seen elsewhere....

Ouch... what are you welding it with? Did you use an acetylene torch to gas weld it?

haha no i am not offended, i still know i am not the greatest welder in the world...
A. it takes me a lot longer to make a weld than others.

B. i just really am not that good, but for the most part if it holds and doesnt leak it will be good enough for me, it will all be wrapped anyways, haha.
