Default Am I leaving streetable power on the table with my current cam?

I see the discussion about the Z06 and Z06/LS7 cams, and other people running smaller cams getting huge numbers. I also see that some people like bigger cams and more overlap, and get big numbers as well.

With a Vortech S-trim at 7.2# on this motor and cam, I put down 501rwhp through a 4L80E.

Do you think I am losing power with my small solid roller (Adv. duration 268/274, 230/236@.050", net lift .606"/.602", 112LSA, overlap 4.5degrees)?

If so, enough to warrant a change? The best time to do it would be now while I'm working on it anyway.

This is a SBC Vortech (I'm got a T-trim now ready to go on) 383 with good, raised port, ported E-Tec 200 heads, ported single plane, 9.6:1CR, big FMIC, Holley MPFI w/wideband and all the good forged stuff.

Thanks,

Jim

Do you want to find out? Call one of our sponsors - W2W or Speed are on top of my list. Have them spec one out for you. You'll never know for sure by guessing. I have not seen a lot of people here run solid for a FI set-up.

Thanks, David, I'll do that after some tuning and testing with the T-trim and alky on. I want to see what this cam will do first. I love the cam, but I also don't want to leave a large chunk of useable power untapped.

Other ideas, anyone?

I dont think you will 'gain' anything really with a smaller cam, but a wider LSA may spread out the power a bit more. The bigger blower should net you plenty of gain, try it and see.

I would be running a small solid roller if they werent such a pain on these, quick ramps and no worry of pump up or bleed down is a good thing.

ddnspider,

How much of it do you need? I have just gotten some 4" aluminum bends and am going to replace it with a hard, fabbed up 4" pipe, into a new Vortech inlet air adapter I need to make for the biiger T-trim opening.

I have the piece that's on the car and a slightly shorter new piece I can measure.

If you need more than that I will dig up the source. It is hi-temp silicon with a spiral wire core.

kp - thanks! I'll come back with some new results in a couple months.
