I just talked to the speed shop and I guess its bored 30 over now, and needs another 30, so it looks like it'll be aroudn a 414 when its done. The heads seemed to have melted part of the alimunum in the intake part so theyre gonna do something technical(Iforgot what its called lol) and reseat everything to get it to fit and save the heads.

The pistons apparently have like less then 3/1000's clearence (super tight and built like an NA motor as I was told) but the rods were pretty loose...

I'll prob speak to them next week and see what the machine shop says.

Anyone have good experieinces with JE pistons?

I guess theres a 5 week back order for diamond so I might stick with JE.

you have the 6.0 iron block right? i didnt know you could bore it out to a 414
what is your bore size know? and what will you go to, you might check on that cause you might not be able to bore it out that far.

sonic check the block first...I am surprised you'd need to go 30 over again and not a light hone...

You can get .040 over LSx pistons too.

I had a 4.060 bore iron block once, but not every iron block can be bored out that much do to core shift.

This is what I have learned about machine shops. Every single one of them talks about the last machine shop. All of my engines have worked flawlessly, but I have always got I have no clue why they built your motor like that and I cant see how it lasted this long.. LOL!!

Ill see if we can get pics of the damage... Or at least an explanation, I think they said some of the bore was scratched, he could stick his hand in there and feel a bit of it... But im not 100% sure the extent of the damage.

I am with the others on that much of a bore. I would get a new block and start from scratch. You are only talking $500 max for the new block.

Do you think there would be any back pressure problems with a gt42 housing/S80 or S85 and a 408 with heads?

I've got a S80 and on the fence as far as 370 or 408.

ya Im gonna see what exactly is done damage wise and will see if we need a new block or not.

The problem is machine work will have to be started all over again which will make my rebuild much more expensive though wont it, since they have to cnc all from the beginning... id rather try to save the block if possible if thats the case.

I don't think there will be much of a problem with a full S-series. They are making some big power indeed.

More bore means weaker block IMO. Also, the boring portion is not expensive. Now if they have already ordered the pistons then try and save that block. If I ever do this all again I am going for another block and staying less than 40X.. I will probably opt for a 364ci..

You should tell this new machine shop to build it just like before because that motor was strong as hell and lasted alot longer than anybody would of expected I can bring up a ton of old posts with overheating, missing plugs, racing while overheating and the car just running too lean. That engine lasted through alot of unnecessary abuse

Hahaha, very true. I didnt beat the **** out of it all the time, but the times I did I ran it hard and enjoyed it.

never had missing plugs, just the tops of them :p hahah.

I was at the chevy dealership this weekend looking at the new c6z's...

88k... **** that! lol.

But, my dad really wants me to fix the car and sell it and get a c6z instead. Then a cam, headers, intake, exhuast, tune and 150 shot and Ill be right back where Im at now

What do you think of the idea?

that will cost big bucks is your dad gonna help pay for it. you spend 8000 fixing your car then sell it for 30K you still need 60K then money to mod the 06 z06. Good plan, but very very very expensive.

Well let me see if/how much its gonna cost to fix.... DrTurbo said a used gt55 goes for 2600 so if theres 1700 worth of damage you got a deal

My dad is helping me finance most everything. He just is tired of **** breaking and having to spend more money so he wants something that will be covered by factory warranty.

Looks like I'll be holding on to the car for a bit then since Im getting offers for 5k
