My Dad has a 2.65 pulley on his magna charger...is 4lbs about right for that pulley or should it be more?

4lbs? I have a 3.2 pulley and I make 7lbs, a 2.9 will get you around 8-10 lbs that thing would prolly over spin the Maggie at around 11 or so lbs I would think. Depending on his mods of course, now if he has a big cubed motor or something I could see those kind of numbers but like I said with my setup Heads, Cam, Headers stock cubes I am at 7lbs with a 3.2.

Stock long block, kooks headers, SLP LM Exhaust, K&N Intake....what could make him be boosting so low? Can it be tuned to boost lower? Can the actuator be set to only boost 4? I mean, I don't know what it could be...

You may have a boost leak. Check your maggie manifold bolts. My maggie manifold bolts were loose on my vette. The bolts are notorious for working their way loose. If loose use some blue loctite. I think the torque setting is about 87-89 in/lb.

but thats the thing....the car never bossted any higher...I mean I really have ran out of ideas...I usually like trying to fix my problems by myself...but now I'm posting cause I really need help...like is it possible for the actuator to be bad? To be releasing too much pressure?

Yeah, check the bypass valve to make sure its working properly...That or your having massive belt slip with that small of a pulley..I ran a 2.9 pulley and would see 12psi of boost...

so besides the actuator...what could it possibly be? How do I check the actuator? I've been working on this car all day putting the GMM Rip Shift in the car and now I'm going to try to diagnose the problem....so I'll be back every few minutes to check....just keep the ideas comming...

its possible that is your problem I would call magancharger if you do not figure it out. When you throttle up you should see that move. Put your hand on the TB cam and rev it to see if it moves while you start getting into higher RPM's. If it sticks or does not move thats your problem. Otherwise you got a leak somwhere that is bleeding off your boost. This is my second maggie my first was on my C6. Now I got one on my camaro

I know it moves...I just can't imagine where a leak would be...I'll have to check the vacuum lines....

Take a pic of it on both sides maybe we can see something obvious that you are not seeing.

with that small pulley, belt slippage could be your culprit, and if the belt is slipping you won't make the most boost possible. Do you have a larger pulley you can slip on and see what kind of boost it makes.

You can't tune the boost to a certain PSI on this type of setup, it's directly linked to the rpm of the supercharger which of course can be modified by the pulley.

So if your 100% sure your not getting belt slippage, then your getting boost leakage somewhere. I'd consider at this point an improper install if it's always boosted low. Double check that intake manifold and make sure the bypass valve is operating correctly. If it's not getting a proper seal then you won't get full boost.

I guess the first thing I would do is use a hand vacuum pump to see if the boost by pass actuator moves through it's full travel, and also stays as long as you hold vacuum to it. If that's ok, then check real close for belt slippage on the front, and the back belts. You didn't mention what the setup is, if he has it bolted to a big inch stroker motor with 1-7/8" headers and no exhaust, you will see lower boost. As most have said, on a stock cubic inch engine, even with heads & cam, you should still be seeing 10+ PSI.
If the actuator is working properly and you have no belt slippage on the front or rear belt, then there may be other issues.
Feel free to give me a call if I can help,
Ed
