Water DOES have better cooling properties than meth. That being said, I run 100% meth with no water. My IAT's just aren't high enough to properly vaporize water, resulting in a 45HP bog if I spray a 50/50 mix. Pure meth has a much lower flashpoint, so I get no bog. The reason meth seems to cool your hands better is that they are just not hot enough to evaporate water as quickly. If you run no intercooler, and have ultra-high IAT's, some percentage of water "might" be better. The physics, however, don't lie. Water has a much higher specific heat than meth.

If you evaporate 1 lb of water versus 1 lb of Meth, the water does cool the surface much more. However, Methanol has a much higher propensity to evaporate than water. So, you can evaporate it at a much higher rate, thus cooling much more.

Also, I dont know how people can say water has better cooling properties than meth, have you ever got meth on your hands?
Try this little experiment, pour some water on one hand then meth on the other and see which one removes the most heat from your hand. I promise you that the hand with meth on it gets cold and stays cold for a damn long time where the watered hand just feels wet. Thats science right there with exo- and endo- thermic reactions
I would do this experiment with thin rubber gloves on, you guys all know meth is very poisonous and has no antidote. Your skin is like a giant mouth that is why patches work so well. Anything put on your skin winds up in your blood and hence in your organs and brain.... You may not feel the results for decades but people die of cancer years or decades after incidents or accidents and never realized why. You will still feel the effects through a glove good enough to see, I use them and feel the cold every time I spill some on my hand. I would also encourage tuners to vent well. It should burn clean compared to gas, but look how it burns your eyes, it nearly drives you from the room. I have a friend that repaired gas rc cars indoors since the 70s and he, believe it or not ran them near a open door "sometimes" and with a vent fan in the wall, and he collapsed at work one day and to sum it up he had a growth wrapped around his main heart artery. He collapsed again later and died a week later suddenly. They said it was from the methanol inhalation for all those years. He owned Bel-air Hobby in Omaha Ne they no longer exist. You can google it. Do your liver and kidneys a favor and be careful what you hand them.

So did anyone decide which was better? Straight meth or 50/50 mix? It sounds like if your IAT's are very high you should run a mix and if your IAT's are not so high you should run straight meth? I am just going by what I am reading in this thread...

Damnit! I paid over $4/gal the last time I bought methanol. Then again, A local source is only 2 miles down the road, so I guess I saved a little on gas driving there versus cheaper places farther away.

Washer fluid is only about a 20-30% mix so that is the only downside. Also, it could vary enough to make the results different and that could cause problems if you are on the edge with the tune.

Please dont put meth on any part of your body. Yes, it can cause death with big doses, but it can easily cause blindness in small doses. You guys need to be EXTREMELY cautious when handling this stuff. Also, a 55 gallon drum is a bad idea. If your house burns down, you will get NO insurance money whatsoever. Also- the washer fluid is a very bad substitute for meth. It is not a consistent mix at all. Why would you gamble $10,000++ engine on that?

But back to the question- I plan to use 100% meth when I start using my kit.

I've heard of people using a product called HEAT. Anyone use this? I am thinking of going with a 50/50 myself. One is because I am running a PD S/C that will make some high manifold air temps so I am mainly looking for cooler IAT's, and second it just seems a little safer since this is a street car and I am using my washer tank. I don't know if there would be a fire danger or not if you was in a front end accident, but why chance it.

On a side note...how long does a gallon of meth last. Let's say X number of quarter mile passes or X number of spirited street miles just to get an idea.

Local petroleum dealers should be able to get it as well. I'm not sure if they'll sell it in anything less then 55gal drums though.

I got my drum from a local oil/fuel dealer. They normally only sell in 55 gal drums but if you call in advance they will break it down to as small as 1 gal containers

Check with your local speed shops. I found a local place here in East ST. Louis that stocks VP Racing M1 in 5 gallon drums. You could probably order it direct too, but I bet you'd incur some serious hazmat charges during shipping.

NO WAY should anyone get that shipped. They will rape you!

I go pick it up at a local speed shop in Miami. I also only get VP M1 Methanol in a 5 gallon drum and just dilute it at home.
