100% Methanol or 50/50 Mix?
#4
I agree with the above as well. If you are going to use meth injection might as well use 100% to get the most benefit out of it. Meth is just more fuel where any water doesn't combust which is one the reason meth kits are used more now than water kits. Also, I bought a 55 gal drum and 2 years later its more than 3/4 full still. Just have to make sure you keep it sealed otherwise it will wick in water.

Even with 93 octane pump gas + 50/50 methanol/water mix = 116 octane. Water is a better cooling agent than methanol and is good detonation prevention in the cylinder so I was thinking a 50/50 mix would be better than running pure methanol. By running a 50/50 mix you would have cooler cylinder temps than running pure methanol agree?

But strictly speaking, pure methanol carries an octane rating of 107.

FWIW, ive tried every mixture imaginable, and it always comes down to 100% meth. on 50/50 i could run max of 24.5psi and my highest trap speed was 110. On 100%, only 1 hour later, i ran 112.3 at the same boost setting. later i was able to reach 29psi on 100%, and picked up another 3mph. take it as it is. Also this was always on 89octane, and tons of meth, i used to use a 5 gal can in a weekend. Car dynoed 425whp and 540wtq on the 29psi setting. (this was on my 87 GN, stock motor, K&N, 36#inj, 60 trim turbo. everything else stock including downpipe and fuel pump.)

2 things
1) Unless you're really on top of your tune, I wouldn't use meth as a power adder
2) If your system uses a Walbro pump, then Walbro themselves DOES NOT recommend 100% meth with their pumps
Many have been running 100% with these pumps for years, but just beware.
I run 100% on my C5 but only to keep things cool (CR is 11:1 and boost is 12 psi, stock LS6 bottom end as well))
On my Sport compact, I ran just distilled water for years cause it didn't need any octane boost, just cooling. (MP62 @ 21 psi = 400F blower outlet temps)

I run 66/33 meth/water mix but for different reasons than most. I've found that since my tank is mounted in my engine bay it gets hot. Meth boils at 149 F. On hot days my meth setup would usually work fine on the highway, but after sitting for a while it would no longer pump. After I started adding water to it the problem has gone away. It would almost never work at the track until I started doing this. I should relocate my tank to the trunk eventually.

I consider Julio Don (www.alkycontrol.com) to be the leading expert on meth injection. He's run up to 45 psi boost with it on the DSM's. He says 100% meth is best so that's what I use.

I'd hate to go to hit it and have the meth tank come up evaporated.

I was originally going to run the M3 stuff from VP racing fuels but I think I'm going to stick with snow performance's boost juice (a 49/51 mix of water and meth) which costs $25 for 4 gallons. I need the cooling effect rather than the added octane. Plus as a daily driver I prefer to water down the meth to prevent any possibilities of corrosion, even though its unlikely.

Homemade 4 gallons: 4 gal @ $3ea = $12, plus $.99 for 5 gallons of distilled = $12.99 plus your time to go get the meth and water. Their $25 price does not include shipping, and it's heavy, so figure $30 to your door.

very true, i could save a few bucks but with summit down the road I get it for about $26 to my door and save the trip to the store for the materials. If I go custom mix (say 66/33 as mentioned here) then it would be to my benefit.
Not to stray off topic but how do you like that FJO pump? I noticed its the same design as my oil pump with the heat sink built on. Does it have that overheating wire built in that many claim needs to be absent from a good meth pump? They seem to have a very solid product line. (what kind of hose do they use also?)

On my vehicle switching from 50-50 to pure meth netted me 3-4ths consistantly and also 5-8mph since the intake air temps were so damn low I could run stupid amounts of timing with 20psi of boost.
