Default Piston Rings Boosted?

Ok since my motor is out I need to get this done also. I am told wrong ring gap can cause alot of crank case pressure..

So with that said.

I was told best to go with as far as a ring setup would be a file to fit top ring and a gapless ring for the 2nd. I have no idea where to start on this and wanted feed back before I buy anything.

I just bought a set of rings from Total Seal that were spec'ed for 1000rwhp and 25 psi of boost on a 347. They used a 1.5/1.5/3.0 ring set and a c33 steel top ring. Call Total Seal and talk to them about your motor/set-up and they will get you a ring set that will work.

Had boost issues and fixed them and poped number 7. Was only getting 9 to 11psi and I fixed some stuff and it hit 19psi and poped it.

I used Total Seal Max rings on my 402 build. I plan on installing a vacuum pump later to help contain the blow by.

ok what are your recommended gaps for the hell fire rings.. as giving someone a type of ring with no spec is absolutely pointless...

should i gap them to .000 ???

LMAO

Not unless you want them to make contact and bust the ringland open.

All depends on the combo, how much boost you intend to run, dry sump, vacuum pump, etc.

talk to your machinist, he can recommend the app gap.

We are not a machine shop, we use a very good friend of our to do machine work and assembly of our motors, he is very well known in the ls1 and Corvette Community.

I wouldn't feel comfortable telling you what to gap your rings at.

Ok found the info.

Pro Series Rings

Speed-Pro Pro Series rings, designed for the professional racer, offer features that maximize horsepower, including:

Reduced widths and radial wall thicknesses in the top and second rings for lower tension and enhanced sealing
Plasma-moly facing on the top ring for instant seating and long life
Cast iron second rings, with tapering face profile and open-gap design for lower inter-ring pressure buildup and excellent oil control at even the highest RPMs
Pro Series rings include a very low-tension, thin-profile version of the SS-50 oil rings with a wire latch mechanism to simplify installation.

I have used hellfire rings before on my syclone running around 15-20lbs of boost and they are awesome. even before i put the vacuum pump on they sealed great even under full boost.

My question is who do you get them from for a ls series engine? Anyone recommend a good shop to purchase from?

If you go with a gapless ring, I would suggest Child & Alberts Zero Gap rings.
To find the ring gap, someone should have a reference, or ask the ring or piston manufactor what they recommend. It's usually so many thousanths of an inch of gap per 1 inch of bore. So if you have a 3.905 more, and it called .005" for F/I motors, then you multiply .005" x 3.905 and get .0195" gap. But I would guess it should be around .025" for the top ring. But that's just a ball park number.
