Default Cat issue with STS?

Recently got the STS on the GTO and right now, running the stock mids with the stock cats. My biggest concern right now is melting one of the cats and having pieces of it flying back into the turbo, resulting in a very broken turbo. However, I love the sound of the car right now and don't really want to go full catless. Is there any other option out there? Some cats that can take the extra power/heat? I've heard people eating up hi-flow cats even. Any ideas or is going catless the only real way of ensuring the turbos won't get damaged some time down the road?

i had high flow cats from MTI, but VERY soon after the STS system i took them off due to the potential of that problem.

my car sounds completely different than it did only when WOT, sure it has a little more "rumble" to it in regular driving, but i have piece of mind that no cat will destroy the turbo

So no way around this huh? =\ Guess I'll have to suck it up and buy a set of nose plugs for my passengers, lol. Actually, maybe this'll make people not want to ride in the car ... which I'm perfectly fine with, lol.

I think that you'll find (if you go catless) that you really don't get that much of a fume difference.

I've been catless of multiple vehicles for years and never really noticed a difference. I have more crankcase fume smell (Dam PCV) more than anything.

I definitely smelled the difference on mine. Same when I removed the cats temporarily on my 88 formula. Nothing too bad though, I don't mind it at all. It sounds much more raw though and not very refined in the morning (or any cold starts) IMO. I prefer something powerful but not blaring and raspy. People just think the car sounds like a mac truck then

They arent too much louder with gutted cats, but the worst thing is the popping sound when you let off on it.the colder the weather the worse it does it.This was with an sts turbo set up.Mine was awful!

i get the popping sound too, only when i let off after doing a WOT run @ 8psi. It doesnt happen at 5# though.. is it because of the cats then? i was thinking my exhaust piping was too small or something. Is that bad in any way?

My car did it even while driveing normally. It only did it after I gutted the cats.It dose not hurt anything, everyone just looks at you like you are crazy! The popping sounds like the old straight through mufflers like cherry bombs, again the exaust note was not to loud but the popping almost drove me crazy, other drivers gave me a little too much attention!
