Default Pulled and Inspected the Motor (!!?!??!!)

We are dissssappointed.
I stopped by my machine shop last night to check on the motor. These guys cleaned and polished the block inside and out. It looks better than new. They said it looked like I really took care of the engine (oil changes, etc.) Top notch shop.

Now for the good part:
We rummaged through the box of the old stock internals, trying to find ANY broken part and guess what: the pistons were in perfect shape, the connecting rods were in perfect shape. In fact, everything was in mint condition EXCEPT for ONE rod bearing that was cracked and chipped, ONE rod bearing. This explains the metal chips we saw in the oil pan. How the f**k did this happen!? Any ideas? This sucks that I'm rebuilding a whole freakin' mint-condition short block because of one $10 rod bearing. And who's to say this won't happen again? This had nothing to do with the pistons, rings, rods, or bolts (the stuff that normally breaks).

And one more thing: The oil pump was cracked. I'm talkin' like somebody took a hammer and smacked it, right were one of the bolts were. Now how did THAT happen? Mancini said the pump was functional, but just not securely bolted because of the crack. Somebody f**ked up somewhere.

HHSSSSSSSSSSSS!!

Man, that does suck, while you have the motor out and everything, you are going to put some forged internals in there right?

While that does suck, look at it this way. Now you get a really good engine.

You have no reason to put the stock pistons or rod bolts back in. When you reassemble the engine, get forged pistons, ARP rod bolts (in the stock rods), ARP main studs, and really good bearings. You won't have to worry about breaking anything for a long time then.

Yeah, that sucks. That's the way it can happen when an engine is built. Details are EVERYTHING in an engine, but a 29 cent part can still send you packing.

It's unlikely it'll happen again, and if you shop pays attention, you'll be better than ever.

Keep us posted.

You bet. I put some pictures up on my webpage.
Hopefully this is the last time I have to pull this engine.
