Default Vapor/smoke from breather?

I know many of us use valve cover breathers, so I posted up in the FI section.

I've had this breather for probably 5000 miles or so... and now when the car's running I can see faint smoke/vapor coming through it. Do I need to change the filter on this (it looks saturated) or clean it or ???

Thanks in advance for any info...

I'm not sure how often they need to be changed, that's a good question. But I do know it's pretty common for them to smoke like that, mines done it since I put it on.

How long does it last or is it continous? If it is for a little bit on start up, then it is water vapor and pretty common.

I've seen it most on warm up but I bet when the motor's hot it's got vapors coming out of it at WOT.

Mine put out vapors for about 300 miles after I change the oil, and some on startup, and some after a hard run.

If it is completely vented to atmosphere expect it to smoke a little all the time.

i thought u need some sort of intake suction to remove the vapor at idle...
i have
so with the ls6 valley cover routed to the ls6 intake with 1 way check valve
valve cover nipple to catch can to induction side of air filter

i have no vapors at idle but

under wot there should be some smoke coming out to relieve the crank pressure

correct, if you have no pcv (or as i insist it should be called NCV cuz its a vacuum) then any pressure will come out of the filter

engines do this on every start up because as the engine cools the hot air inside it has water condense out of it and puddles in places in the block. on start up this water eventually vaporizes and steams out.

still if no pcv you will see some blowby at idle and definitely at wot.

like mecham i draw air through my block and into the intake

Or if you're lucky like me you get oil coming out at WOT because your rings are apparently shot.

clean with gas wait till dry then put back in depending upon ur catch can setup, of its just a fuel filter or a air pump filter u can jsut change it but otherwise lil gas pull the blowby out and u should be good.
