red ws6 99: wow thats pretty harsh saying his system wont work well for our cars when it has'nt even been developed yet. but it has been put on a lt1 and seemed to work on that.

well this is for rick, do you suggest that we do or don't run cats with this system? i'm guessing don't would be the answer but i'm not sure.

Where most of us are running single exhaust pipe back to muffler, i dont see any problem keeping and getting turbo spooled up. Decently powerfull LS1 is keeping that 2 into 1 into system real busy! My Flowmaster case and baffles flap when i go WOT that tells me exhaust is overworking the system. Slowhawk has blown apart several Corsa systems for same reason, i say this turbo system may be worth a shot.
How much reallistically will this kit cost? How much are you getting for LT1 kit?

I think this is a great setup if it works out.No reason why it shouldn't if the gas turbine is disigned right.I would like to see a self contained lubricating system with it too.I think all you would need is a tank, oil cooler, and pump to do it.This could take over the SC market if done properly

Such quick judgement. Seems to be doing well, 5psi, if the turbo was closer of course it'd spin faster, duh... Let's see how it does at the track and then you can make judgements.

An exhaust gas powered turbine needs to be as close to the manifold as possible for satisfactory results.

Shades of the electric supercharger, Batman!

If you can get 5psi I'd be surprised, and I'd say it is successful, although it won't be much better than a moderate heads/cam car. But good luck.

As I stated it will work, nobody who can do the math is saying it wont. But is just like the junkyard setups they "work" but are not optimized in any way for actually be efficient, which correlates directly to hp. What I am stating is that it will not be as efficient as the turbo the closer to the engine. No the turbo does not run off heat, but the velocity of gas is very much related to heat. How do you counter act this, there are several ways. One would be to slightly choke the exhaust flow downstream of the turbo to keep exhuast velocity higher for longer periods. You do this with a properly sized wastegate. This properly sized wastegate will be of smaller diameter than a for a turbo that is closer to the engine. Its no big deal, but you will have more lag and the efficiency will be lower. That thermodynamics and fluidynamics you cant get around it.

now i don't know much at all about fi so i have some questions. regular turbos run off one headder right? well if they do wouldnt the exhaust running into a y pipe some what better the whole velocity part.

i have another question for rick. i understand the whole turbo in water thing but what about the air filter thats prone to sucking in water right?

no all the single turbo kits for the LS1 F-BODY I know of have a crossover pipe. It conects the passenger side header to the back of the driver side header. This makes the header fed by bolth banks.

Turbo in the back is and interesting idea...just not optimum for performance. Turbo may even have better durability do to it not getting as hot all the time. It is definetly in less than an ideal location when located in the back, but it would be interesting to see which is the greater evil...using a crossover or putting the turbo in a less than ideal location.

I am curious about all the water and crap getting in the turbo from condensation etc. Would that just burn off or potentially cause problems?

cheers,
Chris

Could the backpressure blow the exhaust off the car? Seems like you'd be constantly battling exhaust leaks.

you'd think it would have to be a better exhaust pipe than ususal, but who knows

a bov lets air out on the intake side not the exhaust side

BigTime was just checking things out...checking out this setup...

See it's like this....

One thing that comes to mind to BigTime are the headsets fellas and some chics wear when yapping in their cell phones....they serve the purpose...they make yapping on the cell phone conveinant.....they make it safe while driving...
they save the person from yapping from developing brain cancer from holding their cell phone against their head.....all good things....but they have one drawback: THEY ARE GAY. Fellas look like homosexuals while using these headsets and BigTime has a problem with things that are gay.....

Much with this setup....might do some things.....but reminds BigTime too much of cell phone headsets....hope that helps clarify things for the common man.......

If you want to kill a fly use a fly swatter.

If you want killer HP.....don't put your turbo away from your heat source.

If you want to **** ant performance.....then by all means have at it.

I would easily put a blower on my car before I put this system on anything.

I also do NOT like scavange pumps. This system MUST use a scavange pump with a hell of a long line back to the engine.

I wonder if it would help to use a turbo with the .63 exhaust housing on it like the GN guys use. It would probably max out on boost by 5800 or so, but that would be OK with the stock cam. As far as the exhaust, I would think that you would want to have it as airtight as possible, and probably jet-hot coated, too, to keep the heat in (which will help with charge velocity). I assume it would have a shield on it, to keep the road dirt off it, right?

I am definitely interested in seeing this thing, it could be the Powerdyne of turbo systems. You know? Kind of a pain in the ***, but decent if you can get it set up right!

BOTH HANDS OVER MY MOUTH...
I want to hear a non biased persons reports of what the car drives like on the street. Until then i will bite my tonque a bit. Hey innovation is wonderful but seeing the car picking up some speed at the track on a turbo car does not say much for ME personally. If you build boost before you leave on the strip whats it showing up that it will generate boost? You are constantly on boost the whole way. I just have not heard of the responce of the boost on the system.
When someone spends serious cash on this system and realizes its limits (imo have to use a super small exhaust housing so your limiting hp).

Time will tell though. I will stick to my headers thanks
