Well I have gotten several estimates from several tuners around the states because im starting my project in April-May and this is what ive collected so far.

The high estimate from a reputable tuner was $38,000. I laughed tha one off and refused to even go back to their webpage! Every other tuner that I talked to is in the $20-25,000 and thats a little more reasonable. I would do all the stuff myself... but im in Iraq for the next three years and dont have the time at all to do it. The estimate is for a 408 and F1(A or C), fuel system and al the supporting bs.

If your really going to do it, with power... Trans, rear end, fuel system, big stuff, ect. Your first guy is more realistic. One thing leads to the next and then some. lol If your tight on money F/I is NOT the way to go. It's fun but expensive!

$40-50K + what ever im doing this time...... thats not counting the 2 motors before and the D1-SC setup i had and all the parts i sold in the past.
Oh then add the car in there
Harlan answered best....
If were talking Harlan's or Tom Kempf's for that matter $100K
Alot of times its not the Parts that get ya.... its the labor... and let me tell ya..... ive been hooked up with the labor part.......
Start pricing everything out and then when you have your total.... double it...
That will get ya close.....

I don't know why it's so expensive, my setup is pretty cheap and I've experimented with it a whole lot. I've had at least 4 different turbos on it, 3 different rears, multiple gear swaps, 5 or 6 clutch changes, two different engines and I'm at or under 30k including the car and I don't do my own labor (much). In that 30k is the car I originally bought for 16k with a basic STS kit on it. That means I've only modded about 14k even with all my experiments. I did sell off my old parts before they broke though (except the engine, I killed it and still sold it for $300 ).

The biggest secret is to not waste your money on parts you really don't need, lots of the stock stuff works great, my entire engine build cost me $3500 including machining, parts and assembly and it was a complete engine, not a short or long block (everything including all accessories from my old engine of course). Most people laugh at my parts selection though.

My entire build could be replicated for around 15k in parts. Then recoup money from selling stuff off. It could be a lot cheaper if you can live with a mild build and 500-600 rwhp (we always want more though :p )
