To anyone who's either starting, in the middle, or has completed their F.I. project, whats the total amount you have spent so far?

I'll throw out a # for ya' So far about $10G's and that was getting the STS kit used for 3500 to include injectors (which have since been upgraded.) This is on a H/C car that still has a STOCK bottom end. Add in another 6-8G's to have a forged bottom end. The real $$ isn't in the FI kit, it's in the upgrades to fuel, tuning, FMIC, low compression heads, etc, etc.

That's why the average response is

I don't even like to think about the money. I get that sick feeling. Then I forget all about it when I hear that whistle.

Ain't that the truth. I think 2 of my kids will have to pay their own way through college based on the $$ I've spent on the Camaro and my Jeep!

I don't even want to add it all up! I lost count after $8k on just the forged engine build up! But theres probably easily 3x more than that in it all if I had to make a rough estimate. Thats all in parts too since I do all my own labor. If I couldn't work on my own car, I couldn't afford it!

Too scared to add things up. I'm afraid it will confirm that I'm stupid or insane or even both.

The initial cost wasn't so bad. It is all the money you spend after that changing part's out and upgrading to try different thing's! The more HP the more maintance. Not a regular oil change anymore,it's oil+spark plug's+tire's! Ha,Ha!

I am starting and not sure I know what the bill will be when done. I would say it will be in the area of 2X my initial estimate.

Well let's see. I'm still in the gathering stages but here's what I've got so far. I started with a built motor and car that I won't add in.
OFI kit $6000
Turbo $2000
BS3 $2600
Fuel System $2000
I know there's alot of nickle and dime stuff that I still need but it will all add up very fast.

I think i was around 15 or 16 last count, at least another 5-10 to go to get it running/safe! Then i start swapping some parts for fancier parts!

damn i knew this was going to be expensive from the begining and after reading this it confirmed my thoughts! i WANTED to do this whole thing with a 4k budget just for a mild little setup with used parts . i'm going to try to get this all under my budget but it's going to be hard. so far i bought a intercooler for 150 a wastegate for 220 a 2 bar map sensor for 60 and heads for 160. so far i'm about 600 bucks in, i still havnt bought my hotparts but that will be another grand by itself. hopefully i can find a good deal on a 76mm like i'm sure there is on this site, (i'm still kicking myself about hearing that 76 mm selling for 900 bucks brand new!!) i already have a fuel pump upgrade from my nitrous days, so i'm not includin that in the budget. but i will have to include some 42 or even 60 pound injectors (to grow into, instead of having to buy twice) then all the little hoses and clamps.....

hopefully i can make my goal. wish me luck!
