Default Reliable Forced Induction, cost?

Hey guys, I have been doing a lot of research and I have noticed there are several ways people are going about Forced Induction. I have about 8k to spend on a project on my car.

Would it be possible to build a reliable setup with that much money? Pro's / Con's?

I do not really expect 10's or even deep 11's. But I think this will be a fun project with the ability to expand on it later down the road.

Thank you soo much guys!

This mod bug is soley Ls1tech's fault, heh. I love this site!!!

The most reliable setup is to build the bottom end first, do it backwards...build the car backwards, the blower will kill the trans, and rear if you have sticky tires...

If you get a nice 6-8psi going on a stock motor that hasn't seen much abuse it should last for a while...if you want to put out some serious power though, you need the drivetrain to handle it...

Expect to spend when all said and done:

I've calculated it out to be
Turbocharger ~19k
Supercharger ~18k

It includes built drivetrain, built motor, charger kit, suspension components, cage, etc.

I've already spent about 12k and am working my way toward the 19k. Just need a built motor now.

You've spent 12k already!!!

Damn is all I have to say. I dont want to go the H/C route, I would like to go a different route.

I have the built tranny already.
I need to strengthen the drivetrain...will need a 12 bolt or something similiar.

How much of a PIA is the ProCharger to install?

First off Rob is probably high balling the cost a little bit, and after hearing some of the components he's using I'm not surprised. He's building his car the right way. However most of us don't have that kind of money to lay down. Here's my basic breakdown:

$4K For ATI D1-SC Procharger tuner kit
$400 42# SVO Injectors
$1K in components needed for install(fuel pump, FPR, fuel rails, braided lines, etc.)
$2,100 for Strange 12-Bolt
$1K McLeod Single Disk Kevlar Clutch
$1200 FLPs
$550 LS1Edit
$200 ATAP

So I'm at 10K so far and have a fully running, fairly safe FI setup. Hmm maybe Rob isn't so far off the mark. :p When you throw in a forged motor the price climbs rapidly. But you can run safe on the stock bottom end for a while. You can certainly go cheaper than what I have done. But considering my future plans(beating Rob :p) it makes since for me to do my fuel system this way now. Lot's of people don't need FLPs, don't need 1K in install accessories, don't need a 1K clutch, etc. That's just the route I went.

Good luck,

Mike

I think there are a number of ATI'd stock engine cars that are running okay.

But if you put a blower on a stock engine car, and you like the power, you might want to salt away some funds for a piston upgrade if you want to make more power.
