Default Need sugestions for a new Cam

Howdy!

I need a new cam, I think. I'm looking for some more power at 20 psi.

Right now I have a 224/224 with .580 lift and 115lsa with no advance ground in. My current effective RPM range is 5200-6200 with a pretty rapid drop off in power after that. The Engine is a 370", 9:1 cr, forged block and AFR 225 heads. The Turbo system is a Cutsom Single with 1.75" tubular headers. The Turbo is a Turbonetics 82-83mm, Ball bearing, and the new "F1" T4 exhaust housing (w/1.01 a/r).

I am thinking that the cam may be holding me back a little. I think if I can move the PB up about 500 rpm we'll see abit more power (its just over 800rwhp now). I'd like to see 850-900 ish with a cam swap.

So, what do you guys recommend? Speed Inc or any other shops, your input is welcome!

Thanks,
Ryan K.

I think you should have a custom one made for your exact set up. Speed in seems to like a tighter lobe sep. with the duration and lift squared off. My engine builder likes his turbo cams squared off also.

I don't know a lot about cams and there are some people on this board who are really good with them. Hopefully they will chime in.

Good luck, your set up is nice.

Your effective rpm range is only 5200-6200rpm ????

Something sounds wrong there. What valvesprings are you using ?

I think he might be running into high p/r's because of the exhaust side on his turbo. It would be interesting to see if you picked up much power at all with changing the cam, or springs, or both.

also real curious on this as i have been told a few times that the turbo's dont need any special cams to make good power..I need a custom cut cam but just have to figure out what to get.

Well its making good power before 5200 rpm, but after 6200 it starts to fall off pretty quick.

Allmost sounds like a back pressure issue with that smaller ex housing or possibly a valve spring issue.

Just go with an 02+ Z06 cam if you want perfect drivability and big power :whoknows:

That is what I was thinking as I had valve float, but wouldn't know it cause it pulled clean. Too a long time to figure it out LOL!

What do you have for a inlet on the turbo? What does the boost do when the graph dies?
