Default High Compression stock 346" with D1 ?

I was interested in getting some people'e experiences with running a D1 Procharger on a higher compression stock 346" LS1. I have a head and cammed stock engine (400 RWHP) and am bored with the power already. I have plans to put a Procharged F1A 403 in the car, but when I do I know it will be a little aggressive for comfortable driving and quite honestly I am not ready to go there. The H/C package drives nice, I just want more hit out of it.

The comp ratio in the engine now is 11.18:1 with a .040" Cometic and AFR heads along with ARP studs. I have rod-bolted the lower end so I figure it is good for 500 RWHP or slightly more.

I have the EPP FMIC set-up for my F1A/403 I was going to install with the D1 on the stock 346" for now. I also have 60# injectors I plan to use. The car already has a complete fuel system installed. Was curious if running the D1 with a 4" pulley would help me hit around 500-550 RWHP and if it was feasable to run on 93 without any meth, etc. Looking for about 6-7 psi, and if it will live at that. Not looking to make an ashstray of the 346" just have some reliable HP for next summer and to prepare the car more towards the bigger engine without having to do things twice.

The camshaft I have is a 224/230 114lsa Comp XE-R installed at a 113 ICL.

I was also curious about running an 8 rib set-up on a SLP underdrive pulley and if there were any concerns doing it. My 403 has an ATI Super Damper on it and I keyed it to the crank. I would like to leave it on there if possible. I know ATI sells a 'pin' kit for the stock engines, is this something that can install while the engine is in the car 'easily' ?

Thanks for the help.

I can answer one of these.

Pinning the crank isn't too big a deal. Just the headache of getting stuff out of the way so you can work. I did mine during a blower/head/cam swap so it was pretty straight forward.

Hope this helped.

I was kinda thinking about a build with higher compression as well but more like 10:1. I know Bob recommends 9.5:1 for his builds but maybe he can chime in to explain some of the pros and cons.

Also I know Arun (eb02Z06) has hinted at using higher compression for a FI build.

The one advantage I have is using 105 octane E85 fuel

I was wondering this also. My motor has about 11:1 comp, but is forged. I am wanting to do a D1 around 12 psi.

I have been told it is doable. Detonation will obviously be a concern, but is anyway. The tune will have to be spot on and conservative and all who I have talked with recommend methanol injection to help it out. On a stock short, it is wise to stay under 535 or so RWHP to have it last for awhile with a good tune. I suppose it doesn't matter really how you get there, they don't like much more. The tune is everything.

Check out the Firehawk LS2 N/A build we did, it is in our project car section. The compression ratio was around 11.0/1 and this year the customer had us add an APS twin turbo system to his car. We added methanol injection to it and it runs great at 9 lbs of boost and 93 octane. If this car had a wilder cam, a little more boost could be added due to the overlap. A can of Torco octane booster per tank of fuel would also allow more boost to be used. Bob
