Default LT1 Turbo Cam

Hi everyone,
I am relatively new to forced induction and I need a CUSTOM CAM to compliment my setup. I decided I would give it a shot this winter and see what I could build for a custom turbo setup. The specs on my motor and setup are as follows

LT1 Iron block 383 stroker
forged pistons, rods, crank
4 bolt splayed studded bottome end
AFR 210 cylinder heads
Lt4 Edlebrock intake manifold
1.6 ratio roller rocker arms
comp chromoly pushrods
Compression is around 8.5:1
65lb/hr injectors
Adjustable fuel pressure regulator
Car weighs roughly 3400lbs
Car is a 6-speed transmission with 4.11 gears possibly going back to 3.73's

Turbo is a Garett GT45
Shorty turbo headers and 2.5" hot piping into turbo
4" downpipe in to a chambered muffler dumped before axle

A sponsor who custom grinds cams offered me this custom cam as an option
.536/.528 224/218@.050 on a 114LSA.

I actually tried a cam very similar to that in my turbo LT1 car and didn't like it at all.

Most efficient cam I used (which happened to be the largest and with the most overlap) was a 224/224 113lsa.

It didn't quite idle perfectly smooth so I went down to a 218/218 113lsa the last time it was together.

and on another note, you're probably going to max out your injectors pretty quick if you build a good setup. you're probably going to want to go w/ something around a 3.50 gear also. don't waist your time w/ anything smaller than a 76mm. we've got almost the same setup.

I've got a very similar setup (383 LTx, AFR 210's, T76GTS) and running a 224/236-114 cam. I tried a 226/226-114 and promptly removed it. Reverse splits are over-rated.

What was your hotside with the discarded custom cam? Tubular headers or Log Manifold? What did experience with that cam that made you decide to change? Did it dyno low or did your MPH numbers go down or ???? I have a custom Bret Bauer cam kit on it's way to my turbo shortblock and it'll be interesting to see what the numbers are for my engine. I got a custom quote from Cam Motions but EngineerMike brought up a valid point about C.M. not asking anything about my backpressure. The calculated Overlap ended up being a desirable zero degrees but the I/E durations were the same where Turbo conventional wisdom seems to indicate for Log Manifold that the Intake duration should be approx 6 degrees larger than the exhaust duration figure because of the backpressure of the Log Manifold setup.

Mine is a log setup, running about 34 psi backpressure at 17 psi boost. I went with the 226/226 cam because everone said my "blower cam" was all wrong for turbo's. I noticed on the test drive that it was down on power. The dyno confirmed my suspicions.

Also, take a look at the trends in the turbo buick world. They use log headers and are going towards conventional splits now.

I just got my custom Bret Bauer designed Turbo cam. As EngineerMike intimated, the duration is a conventional split.

Interesting, seems like a lot of cars run that 218/218 cam.
