Default Ummm.. WTF is this

I feel retarded asking this question, but I am mocking up my FMIC piping and this thing (whatever it is) is right in the way of where I'd like to route my pipe. So what is it? There is nothing hooked up to it, although it looks as if a vacuum line could hook to it, but there are no vacuum lines around it indicating that one came off. I'd love to ditch this thing, but figured I'd ask before I did it incase it is something important I need and should have hooked up

Sorry if this is in the wrong section, but I figured people in here would know what it is since surely someone has ran across this before doing a FMIC.

By the looks of your pic. Its already broke or disconnected. There is suppose to be a vacumn line going to that. I dont see one in your pic.

haha When I was routing mine, I asked my self the same question. I didn't see the vacuum hose at first. Looks like yours is useless being it isn't hooked up. The other end connects to the vent vac near the evap. coil. Make sure thats blocked off too.

yeah I didn't know what it was at first either when I was installing my 4.5 twin intercoolers. The vac line on mine was still hooked up so I figured it was important and I had to relocate it few inches in order to fit the twins.

So does getting rid of this screw up the heater? Or will it still function and blow hot air? Just curious, I'm doing a FMIC in a month or 2 and will need to know as well...

Haha, that's funny, I was just looking at that last night wondering what it was. I don't have hvac any more so I guess I can ditch it. Thanks.

Well, I've never messed with it or disconnected it before, so its been like that since I got the car as far as i know. My heater has always worked, but I'll check the other end and make sure its blocked off. Thanks guys.

it's a vacuum resevoir, when you take it off and your car is at idle say at a light or something when the motor has low vacuum, if you have your heat coming out the vents, it might flutter between the vents, or the floor or the feet. because your hvac is ran on vacuum hence why after your car is turned off, sometimes you can turn the **** for heat position and still hear it change or let the rest of the vacuum out... i took mine off, once you speed up again it goes back to normal...

Thanks for the explanation. I always wondered why it would sometimes switch between the dash vents and the floor, but most the time when my heater is on, I have it aimed at the floor anyways. Will it effect the A/C as well? If so, I'll just find out where it is supposed to hook up to and relocate the reservoir.

It affects the "flap" that directs the air to what vents, rather then the heat/ac more or less to my understanding, not 100% sure though because i don't have AC and my buddy's car doesn't have it either (and his car does the same flutter between vents at idle)

Yeah, what would happenned if you took the passenger's side air pump off? What is it for? Need to run my inlet pipe coming from the blower there and I need the extra few inches of clearence.

The AIR pump is no big deal. Tons of people remove it. Just gotta have the codes turned off after you do so.
