Default Add cam or up the boost?

I'm currently pushing 570 rwhp with a stock motor at 8 psi. I do have meth with a safe tune. Would it be better to add a cam for some more power or raise the boost to 10 lbs?
Would the boost add more cylinder pressure or the cam? Typically, what kind of gains would I see with a blower specific cam?

Thanks

My .02 = leave it alone until you can build it up. You have good power - why risk it?

People don't talk about it much but it can be dangerous when a motor blows.

How fast do you spin your engine?

this is a good question, I would guess that a cam would be better, because it will add hp with less stress to the pistons , but if you add the cam......who will stop you from still upping the boost.

Peak power at 6300 rpms shift at 6500-6600.
I will have a forged motor built in the future, but not anytime soon. I was hoping with a cam and retune I could squeeze another 40-50 hp and still be somewhat safe.

I say that you are on the limit of the stock internals and leave it alone at 570rwhp. Unless you wanna lower the boost by a couple psi to make it more efficeint and less stress. Or you have allot of money and don't mind blowing it up and building a better motor. Not saying it will go right away but it will defietely in time for sure if you go over 600rwhp on a stock block. I'd myself stay at or below 550, so again, if I were you I'd stay where you are. This is what I was going to do but instead I jsut got a 408 built before I even thought of blowing up my stock block.

I'd leave it alone, but if you want to do one, up the boost. Easier to do and if the motor goes, then you won't have an expensive cam in it that could get hurt.

I say both.
lol

you'll be pushing close to 650rwhp with cam and 10psi and you'll have a good reason to build forged block very soon.

If I had to pick one I'll go with cam.

I agree with the people who are advising you to leave well enough along. You may get by for a while, but at your current horsepower level the stock pistons can't handle much more. I'd wait until you have the money to do the bottom end, which may cause you to save even faster for the engine. Bob

What is your setup that gets you to 570 with a stock motor with only 8 psi? I wish I had that much in numbers.

The heads and the cam are the biggest difference.

I wouldn't do either. If you change the cam, it will most likely raise your powerband a little higher as well, meaning you will have to rev it a bit higher, putting more stress on your stock rod bolts.

Maybe with his power, but the stock cam is too small...at least for me...

Well I have done what you are thinking, I was running alky and had a safe tune so I changed pulleys and went from 5-6 to 10 pounds and it run a lot better till the piston broke, Now I have rebuilt the engine and wasn't really ready, The heat was also a problem with 10 pounds of boost

It sounds like I should leave well enough alone!
I've read about others producing 600 rwhp on stock motors, but I guess your on borrowed time. Future plans will include a forged motor with a bigger cam and crank up the boost
With the power I have now how fast can I run in the 1/4 mile?
Car is a zo6 about 3350 raceweight.

Thanks

Not only that but be prepared to replace/repair other things among the motor as well. Its a vicious circle.
