i will be impressed when they actually run 7's -i mean the dyno says it should-
car wont do that on the tires in the picture... needs a mini tub for any kind of real tire. a buddy of mine has a 485rwhp stroker ls2... thing is slow as crap from anything under 80, all he does is spin all day long. then its ***** fast after he catches on those puny 235's.

i love the gto's, just wish they weighed less and could fit bigger then 275 without modifying.

Thanks for this thread and everyones comments.

Last weekend in Australia was the Summernats car festival which is the largest modified car event in Australia. Part of this festival is the Horsepower Heroes competition for which we prepared 3 different cars, all competing in the forced induction small block V8 category. Two were LSX based packages with the third a SBC. Twin Retarder Dyno Dynamics Dynos were used which combined with the configuration of the vehicles gives a generally accepted 20%+ drivetrain loss.

These events to us are more an engine building competition than anything else, the closest thing we have to the Engine Masters Challenge. We use it as a platform to showcase what the HPF workshop is capable of and as a research and development exercise for our range of milder upgrade packages. Note that we also campaign drag orientated vehicles however we consider that to be as much about vehicle setup as it is engine performance, here we can concentrate strictly on making power.

I will post a thread shortly with specifications of the three vehicles.

We are extremely happy with the results and what HPF has achieved, a summary of the efforts of the HPF Workshop and some pics are below.

Top 4 cars qualified in forced induction small block:
MRPSI (Fully built by HPF)
TRYHRD (Motor built and tuned by HPF)
BLO402 (Fully built by HPF)
MRHDT (Tuning by HPF)

All 3 cars in forced induction small block finals:
TRYHRD 1895.7 rwhp at 33psi
MRPSI 1713 rwhp at 33psi
BLO402 1493 rwhp (ran a 1529 at 28psi in qualifying)

And of course, Outright Horsepower Hero with an amazing 1895.7 rwhp from Craigs TRYHRD/HPHERO.

And to top it all off, the only failure of the weekend was the turbo on BLO402 which was outside of our control. All cars were driven onto the trailers, and MRPSI even ended the event with a lap around the facility.

Hi guys

Thanks for at least some of the half decent comments, sort off over the others who aint got no idea but just think its smart to be an ****.
They have no idea what goes into doing this and yes for the doubters it will be doing track work it has a full cage we will be tubbing it shortly and fitting a powerglide.

we ran a solid 1529rwhp in qualifying @28psi pretty good considering the others were running 35 psi in there qualfying.

Unfortunately on the first run in the finals at 1493 rwhp @6000 rpm the turbo exhaust wheel let go on our way to 7500 rpm it was set to 40/42 psi.

The motor is sweet sounds sweet and very smooth give you a idea on setup run to settle in before they go full power run it pulled 1050 rwhp @5000 rpm.

I run a LSX block 4 inch bore 4 inch stroke using diamond pistons oliver super speedway rods. Heads are ALLPRO 6 bolt 265. Head studs 1/2 inch has a pretty decent solid roller in there with a 117 lsa.

We run a dry ice intercooler to maintain intake temps at minus 5 deg C if you go to cold it plays up with the fuel.

If we can get the turbo to stop destroying itself we know it has the capacity to nudge1900 / 2000 rwhp.

I have a development motor we used for testing cast with lq9 heads well over 75 1000 rwhp runs max it made was 1380 rwhp we had been boosting over 35 psi. Shows how good the Allpro heads are less boost more power.

Stripped motor 4 weeks ago all 8 rods were bent crank block every thing else was all good.

I followed some of Craig's work on the HPHero website a few years ago. It really was one of the things that inspired me with my car.....hence the Vortech YSi setup.

That monster did have a supercharger on it once !!!!!!

Now such a blower is just a baby among those cars !

I think this is impressive to say the least. Yes, they may be dyno cars, but I think it's better than the engine master's challenge and I love that. At least here you have a car you can drive around and enjoy. The engine master's challenge while a spectacle of technology and inginuity is kind of pointless when you look at it. It's just to say, "I can build a better engine on the brink of destruction that you can".

Couple of questions for you GTBMad. On the motor that had the 75 pulls at over 1000 rwhp etc... You said you were using a stock GM casting 317 I'm guessing, Was it pushing any water? And what were you guys useing to fasten the heads down etc... Thanks for the info very nice cars!

Towards the end we were lifting some but this was when we were running at 40 psi. We found we could run it with no lifting at 30 psi all the time

Yes they are the standard castings but you have to understand we had broken at least 3 motors till we got to this stage so we had a fair idea what worked and what didnt.

Basically I was using a 1/2 inch head stud from W2W we were also using billet main caps and filling the blocks to make them less prone to flex. The heads were oringed and we found the best head gasket was the MLS.

I cant remember anytime in the last 12 months were we ever had a overheating problem even when at a show on a 1100 rwhp run it was a 43deg cel day in Sydney, I use the mezeire electric water pump street use ase it flows more waterthan the race version.

By the way I dont have A/C but I do have power steer.

Yeah I used the 1/2" head studs from W2W also what is your O-ring you are useing the Stainless wire?? Or is it something different? And how much of the block are you filling ? I appreciate the info I am not planning on changing what I have, but I like to know what has worked for other people incase I decide to do more etc... Thanks.
