I don't think you can use a SS wire combined with an MLS gasket. EVERYONE I have talked to said to you need to use a combo of SS and Copper. You could use an MLS gasket and a copper wire or a Copper gasket with a SS wire. If you use two steels you will seal the combustion chamber but have issues with water leakage.

Ive used this on a Subaru with an MLS gasket before. It never gave us any problems....although the engine didnt stay together long for other reasons lol. I dont recall how much protrusion the wire had though, but the headwork was done by a guy in the US.
Unfortunately I dont know who.....

That's some serious valvetrain you've got there. I've got a set of those heads for my new engine, but 64cc chambers.
Are you running reciever grooves in the block? Tons of LT1 guys are running hard block with good results.

I beleive the heads were moving around so we still pushed water combined with the flex from the block, it was at that time we were cracking the blocks through the mains.

Why I think it didnt work was we were using arp standard stud size at the time, and there wasnt enough deck thickness on the lq9 heads and with the boost we were trying to run.

We used Manley Nextek Springs 300lbs on the seat 700 lbs open the Valves were custom made REV INCONEL, Morel solid roller lifters.

On the standard 6 litre cast iron we used the MLS head gasket with a stainless oring the block was 30 percent filled. 1/2 inch head studs and the red sticky head gasket crap this is what we used on the 75 plus runs

Thanks that is what i was thinking in the first place when someone chimed in that it didn't work on MLS head gaskets although I had known quite a few using them that way like Stevieturbo said etc... I use Yamabond also I don't know if it is the same as the red stuff you are talking about unless you are talking about hi-temp silicone like a Permatex or since you in Ausi I don't know if you guy are using the same manufactures etc... But thanks anyways. Be looking for another post when you guys get back on the dyno again to best that number by a lot etc...
