Default Help with new fan set up

Going to 86 the stock fan set up. Give me your ideas of what I should run. Single or dual. Spal I hear makes a great fan set up for our cars. If anyone has stock fan specs please list them. Or part numbers for Spal applications, for us. Do any sponsors carry good cooling fans for our cars? Thank You...Angelo

I'm running the ATI fan replacement, its a SPAL single 16" pushes 2700CFM's....draws 25 amps...

But its supposed to cool, I'm going to get my car tomorrow so I will see how it does in the warm weather...

Thanks Bos. I was thinking the dual 11in(2680cfm), not sure if they would fit. Heat is a killer on FI. Good luck with that monster, and hopefully we will both be at the next rsd's. Ang

Yea, I don't think I can get off of work for that, cause I got to take off for the 26th down at US41...

I don't have anyone to tow me up to RSD's anyways...

I've heard many times that it's hard to outflow the stock setup. I've noticed my temps starting to rise with that ati fan. Haven't gotten out of hand yet, but I don't think it'll cut it w/ac + traffic in hot climates.

The new fan setup probably won't help you much and may even cause more problems.

You need to focus on getting air in and getting it out to keep the motor cool. I have been looking into this for a while now and have talked to a lot of people about it, and the consensus is definitely to stick with the stock fans.

Our engine bays are cramped with limited air flow forcing us to get creative in a forced air application.

I thought I read the stock fans can do 3500cfm. You need to make sure they are coming on at full speed which can be done in the programing or hack the stock wiring and run separate relays for each fan. I think a larger radiator should be done first before going with a new fan setup.

I had the car out today in the hot 98 degree weather, the car stayed around 180 degrees the whole time, not bad for an iron block setup...

The 16" SPAL fan I just bought was 2360. I couldn't find anything higher than that except a fan made by Permacool, I think, that no one had, and many vendors claimed had been sent back for cooling problems.

Are you SURE it's rated that high?

Thanks,man!

Bigbos, did you have the AC on the entire time and sit in bumper to bumper traffic???

Until you do you don't know if your setup is adequate. Trust me I know

It seems that there are two types of heating problems here.
1. Can't keep engine cool while stopped or driving slow.
2. Can't keep engine cool while driving at highway speeds.

I have problem 2 but not problem 1.

Thank You for all the replies. Looks like I will keep the fans stock. Hopefully my 6.0l heads will be here next week, and I can put this thing back together. Don't know how much I would have driven the car considering the heat around here lately. Happy 4th. Ang

Aliendroid - Are you running a thermostat? I have heard that not running one can actually make you run hotter because the coolant passes through the radiator too fast. Also, do you still have the air scoop under the rad support attached? Without that, no air will get up there at cruising speeds.

It seems kind of wierd you overheat on the highway only. I am thinking there is something else going on. If those two things I suggested didn't work, throw out some more stuff about your install.
