To answer your fuel mileage question...this is what my STS does.

Normal City driving - about 15mpg.
Driving like I stole it - about 12mpg.
Highway Driving - 24.1mpg (just drove from Alabama to Virginia )

Hope this helps ya' a bit.

I like that analogy, I've never heard that before but you couldn't have said it any better.

mostly because whenever you doa turbo supercharger, you come into problems that are "neccessary" like pushrods/cam/heads(if stock to lower compression), then you figure out you need more fuel(injectors, stock pump sucks *****, you need two walbros, etc), then the tranny, then the rear end lol its a crazy cycle its scary to add all that **** up one day when you're bored at home and think about it but hey is it worth it

How many of you have actually tallied the price of your FI set ups?? I mean all of it from the bolt ons to the rear end. I did that last week and was ummm rather surprised at what kind of new C6 I could have been driving

That ain't no ****. I got all my receipts. New Vette, didn't no I could afford one.lol

If you really want the jones go in the for sale forums and see what F-body's bring $$$ wise, with mods, without mods, etc. I think you are better off if it is bone stock for selling purposes.

Oh well, that is late model performance.

I learned the hard way that all our mods get us a .02 on the dollar return when the car is sold I sold my 95Z with 16k in mods above the 6500 I paid for the car and only got 8k total in resale I say why leave any money to the kid when I die, let him get off his *** and earn it himself

Since you are asking for downsides in general don't forget the added weight of an FI system. Some set ups can add 70+ lbs tot he front of the vehicle. The added power MORE than makes up for this in a straightline but you will pay small penalties in braking, economy and handling.

Also, every FI setup I have seen has complicated maintenance in some fashion.

If you want maximum power though there is no question FI is where it's at.

Whats the maintence on the turbo system, just making sure the clamps are tight and oil lines are tight? My DD diesel truck has twins on it and I haven't had to do anything with it yet.

That is not entirely true. The supercharger is always making boost even at low RPMs. The blow off value disapates whatever charge the supercharger is making when the TB is closest and the monifold is under vacuum. Same thing is true for a turbos blow off value.

The biggest downfalls for FI is cutting corners and trying to save a nickel here and a dime there.

TIRES
i spent $1500 in back tires last year

lots of oem cars have s/c and even more have turbo's so they CAN be very reliable and just as useful. In our 'retrofit' application though things are never tested like an oem would and sometimes not tested at all! You have to be a wise consumer as well as be able to turn a wrech and be able to give regular check ups.

Thanks for clearing the boost thing up Bob I was getting wound up.
