Paranoid about turning up the boost

Paranoid about turning up the boost I'm at 3psi right now running rich. I want to turn it up a bit but I'm worried about the MAF limitations.
If anyone knows about tuneing I have some questions.
When you are running rich, does that mean the PCM thinks there is more air flowing in then there is or is the reading from the MAF constant and unchangeable at a particular airflow?
What's the highest you would go without another tune?
8.8:1cr, 42.5 lb/hr with racetronix fuel pump, t76 turbo. Stock heads and cam.

Re: Paranoid about turning up the boost It's a fully built bottom end with the 6.0l block. I know the cam should change but I'll do that later. I want to turn it up to 6 psi for the first time from about 2.5-3 psi, I'm just wandering if I should get a tune first or if I should worry about the PCM, the car is a 1998.

Re: Paranoid about turning up the boost Do you have a scanner. Pretty easy to see if the MAF maxes out with EFI live....
5lbs of boost would probably max the MAF readings on that motor (not sure at what rpm). Anyway, get it on a dyno and use the PE table to keep it in a safe AF range. Remember, FI = tuning, lots of tuning
