Thanks guys! It should look a little better, and run a lot better next season. To me the cooling system was the one area that wasn't "finished" during last winters rebuild, and that will be up to our standards now. I think the new turbo looks a lot more at home than the old one did on this turbo kit. Last winter we got the bulk of the car finished the way we wanted, but not quite everything. Some things we made some improvements on and wanted to see how they worked (cooling system), other things we thought would be fine but weren't (charging system). So now all of those little things that were left from last winter, or that we found on the dyno, are all taken care of. I am really excited to have the car out next season. As disappointed as I was that we didn't get it out this year, it will be so much better because of it.

Again, thanks for following along. I think everyone will like what we have in store for this winter

All back together and better than ever! Studded, 7 layer gaskets and coated bearings this time...

Let me know if you need anything when you pull yours apart! I am sure you will do it all top notch just like everything else with your car!!

Well, it was another short weekend for us on the car. Have no fear though, we are still well ahead of schedule! We got the new Precision 66mm waste gate, and decided to tackle that first. This thing is a BIG BITCH, and we knew it was going to be one of the hardest things to do on this round of upgrades. Luckily it wasn't quite as bad as we thought though. There was a good amount of time fitting everything together, and smoothing out the transition, but taking the time up front pays off when you put it all together.

Here you can see the new pipe fitted to the cross over.

And here is the finished product!

Another angle

Unfortunately while Chris was putting the merge back on the car, I started welding the O2 bung onto the down pipe. I had about a 1/8" left to go and we ran out of gas!! Even though we are well ahead of schedule, we would have been much further if it wasn't for that. We were done for the night at about 10 or so, usually we stay out there till 12 or 1. Oh well, we will get back after it next weekend. I think the lower intercooler pipe (from the turbo to the intercooler) is next on the schedule. Next weekend will be short too, but we should make a good sized dent in that piping at least.

As always thanks for following along!!

Another weekend, and we are getting close to done already! We got a bit of a late start, but then stayed out there working pretty late and made up for it. Since we ran out of gas in the TIG last weekend, I started by finishing welding the O2 bung on the down pipe. Then we moved on to making the dump tube for the wastegate. We worried more about clearing the driver side of the crossover, we ended up being a little over the passenger side. No big deal, just take some cutoffs from from the tubing we used to mount the wastegate, and the end of the dump tube, and made up a little jog to get around it. Here is the end result

Another shot of it

Next we started on the lower intercooler pipe. I wasn't very happy with it last year and since we changed the turbo it gave us a good opportunity to change it. This is what we came up with.

It's hard to see in the pictures, but its 3.5" out of the turbo, it 90's under the frame rail then transitions to 4" for the rest of it.

Once that was done, we moved to the upper intercooler pipe. Its the same story here, I wasn't real happy with it last year so we decided to remake it. It was just a little short last year, but we went with it hoping to get the car out. It worked fine, but we are picky. This is what the new one looks like, the same but the right length. Notice how it lines up at the v-band, perfect!

Lots of room to the down pipe now

That's about all for now. Somewhere in there while I was welding Chris came up with, and made, mounts for the radiator. We need to make up some small tabs, and new standoffs for the radiator before we can install them though. Look for that to be 100% next weekend, along with the water pump which we will probably move. We have to mount the BOV, IAT bung, and a couple other small things then the fabrication is done! Then we get to pull it all apart, send the motor in for a freshen up, all of the tubing and the new turbo will get sent out for coating, and we will clean up the engine bay some. Looks like we are on pace to have the car 100% complete and ready for tuning in December! As always, thanks for following along!

It's that time of the week again!!! In this weeks episode we finished all of the fab work, and its only mid November! Of course that doesn't mean we are done, but pretty damn close. I am too lazy to write out a bunch stuff that people wont read anyway, so here are the pics.

Better view of finished waste gate and dump tube

Radiator mounts

Detail of the radiator mount

Bottom of the finished upper intercooler pipe

Top of the finished upper intercooler pipe

Finished lower intercooler pipe

This is all of the intercooler piping, all finished, just needs coating!

Mostly finished radiator, still need to close up that top hole

That's all for now! Next week everything will be coming out of the car. The piping and turbo housing will be going out to get coated. The motor will be going to Steve Roden at Legend Racing in Schaumburg IL to have some magic worked over on it. While everything is out we are going to do some work to the engine bay. Probably not too much, but something. As always thanks for following along!

Friggin awesome! I love this build. Broke, do you know if the nose of the car will flex with there being none of the stock radiator support left ? That would get me alittle nervous. Dont worry, im sure 97% of us read through all of your stuff lol

Thanks guys! Honestly, it probably does but not 100% sure. The intercooler, and radiator are mounted to both sides pretty solidly. I would like to see a motor plate and bars though the firewall tying in the shock towers though, but that's not in the cards. We haven't run the car since we cut out the lower part yet. We haven't even made any high HP dyno pulls since we cut it out. We will keep an eye on it I guess.

I'm glad people actually read it! Sometimes I figure that people just look at the pics, or don't bother at all.

Looks great. One of my favorite builds. I was pretty disappointed it didn't make any passes last year. Looking forward to 2013 tho!
