What do you think about using #317 heads on 346 to reduce comp to about 9.0:1 and then boost max 12psi, would the stock pistons and rods live? Yes, I know it depends on tune, but if the tune is good, how far could those stock pistons and rods be pushed?

I have been thinking first set up like this:
-stock ls1 + t56 out of 00 camaro
-317 heads
-ls6 intake
-317 heads
-60lb injectors
-megasquirt (or hp tuners)
-S400 w/1.10 a/r T6

Opinions?

it all depends on the cfm...... boost we all know is pressure messured in pounds, but the amount of air (cfm) makes a big differance. thats why evos push 30, (lil turbo) but a supercharger on a ls1 like a vortech kit 9 or ten tops, cuz its pushing way more cfm with less pressure, and we all know more air equals more heat and power. so the question really should be, how much boost can i push with (insert power adder here) on a stock ls1.

From what I've researched, the rod bolts are the real weak link and will separate between 550-600RWHP. I have LQ9 heads for 9 to 1 compression and an intercooled as well. Still only pushing 5PSI. Increased boost = greed = broken $hit Honestly 8PSI would be feasible on the heads w/ an intercooler, and it should net around the 550RWHP range. More is begging for an engine rebuild. Just my $0.02

I totally agree. you will be pleased with a 500rwhp which on a stock motor is 5-7# of boost. Thats what I am running with the D1SC with FMIC.
