Default Powerdyne Project

Anyone running over 6 psi with a Powerdyne Supercharger on their Camaro SS? I was running 425 RWHP at 6 psi. I am having my BD-11A rebult by 928 Motorsports with the Super Powerdyne Rebuild. I am going to try to run between 8-10 psi. Let me know your Powerdyne experiences!

I had a powerdyne back in 2000. Ran 11.47@124mph on the stock longblock (stock t-body, LS1 intake and all) with mac mid length headers and a catback with 3.73s. (TR6 plugs)

No LS1edit then, used a MAFT.

Car dynoed 435RWHP and 433RWTQ. I made a few changes to the system including a different air intake with large K&N under the drivers side fenderwell and ran two front mounted flexalite fans in a shroud.

you are ahead of me, so keep us posted on your results. I am running a stock BD-11A at 5 psi and will have it rebuilt this summer by 928. I have had no belt slippage using a manual adjustable belt tensioner from Katech. I only intend to step up to 7 psi on the stock short block. I would like to know if you picked up any boost as a result of their rebuild. They supposedly set the clearances to get better output.

Ive always wondered about those Powerdyne Superchargers, as far as
quality and longevity. I wish they were 50 state legal.

Any input on those would be interesting as I am considering a 5 or 6
pound Supercharger system of some type.

I bought mine used for $1100. They come with a fmu to increase fuel pressure under boost. I scrapped that and went with Ford Motor Sports 42 lb injectors. The kit also comes with a add on external fuel pump that kicks in with boost. I didn't use it and just went with a 255 Lhr in tank pump. You need to replace the existing fans with aftermarket pushers. I found pushing air through the condenser less than ideal, so notched the radiator support to allow moving the condenser far enough forward to insert a slim 16" pusher in between. I use a 12" puller on the passenger side of the radiator. You can go with their revised three fan system and should be fine. The supercharger head units use a 1 3/8" wide internal belt to drive the compressor. They are fairly quiet but you still have the whine as the motor increases in rpm. Lots of bang for the bucks for the guy who will be happy with modest levels of boost IMO.

I sold the blower setup in 2001 and have since sold the car. It was a fun setup though...

Default Hey Chrispy

You live in Palm Beach County Chrispy? If you do, I have been in that SRT8 you have pictured.

I ran a Powerdyne BD11A on my Taurus SHO for 2 years. If you want longevity do NOT run them over 6psi. I ran mine at 4psi, 6psi, and 10psi for different amounts of time. At 4 or 6 pounds they'll last a good while. At anything over 6psi, you risk putting too much strain on the internal belt. The belt is cogged and is Kevlar. If you put too much strain on it, it won't 'give' or slip, it will just break.

Also, they have a max RPM as well and it isn't as high as other centrifugals... over revving them will lead to a fast demise as well...

The blower is at 928 right now getting the $1300 rebuild. Its getting all new everything including the better shaft and impeller. Does anyone know of an aftermarket belt tensioner that is a little more ridgid and will handle a supercharged application? I also bought this system used for $1200. I have invested $1200 for the system, $1000 for the install and tune, $1300 for the rebuild, and I will let you know how much the re install and tune will cost this time. So far I have still spent less than what it would have cost just to buy a Pro Charger or Vortech system. I am using the secondary fuel system and the three fan set up. I have 42 lb fuel injectors. I am just hoping to be around 500 RWHP at the end of this project. We will see soon. I will keep you all updated.

I got mine used for $800 from a friend but I never got more than 6psi out of it even with the 9 psi pulley, thats why I decided to sell it and got a turbo.
