It's by far the easiest thing to do and undo, plus if he doesn't know that much about engines, chances are he's not going to want to fool with all the tuning issues from trying to control boost, the timing would be much easier.

bump this old thread. would this work the other way as well? I have the opposite problem as the OP. I have a stock ci ls1 with a whipple and a Trex cam. I do not have the torque down low like i want. Would advancing the cam help?

Let me get this straight, you want a 434 build with a 3.3l whipple on it and you don't want the low end hit.? Isn't that the specific basis on this setup? Low end torque. I would get as big of a tire/slick that you can put on there, pray that your driveline and rear hold and go to the stop lights and start killin' the competition. Just pretend that you have ice skates on cause that is what your car is going to do once you build that.

Stock 346 with the 2.8L @ 13 psi is just stupid on the bottom end in my car. Can't wait to see what the 383 with about 25psi is going to do....

I am looking for creative or constructive ideas on how to control or tune the low-end hit, considering I'd be traction limited already with just the 434. In an ideal setup, I could control via programming how much air the Whipple pumped per gear. Worst case I have some serious re-training to do for my right foot.

Thanks,

Jim

Sort of like the turbo guys with the eboost controllers that allow different levels of boost per gear (A4 only? not sure). A setup like that and some new discipline on the gas pedal - that would be a slick combo. But I agree on the tires. The ET drag radials helped a lot but we'll see. May need to mini-tub if I can make it subtle, and I could fit a 315 in there instead of the 275 now.

not sure with all the abbreviations (?) is it has been mentioned, but how about a electronic throttle in front of your cable operated normal throttleblade, that you could elctronically control with rpm/ speed / gear or a function of several. (that might work better then the bypass valve?)
I plan on doing that with my track car, so i can limit the amount of power as circumstances would need (wet track , etc)

The most fun of a twin screw on a V8 is the hit from the torque. With over 600 ftlbs on pump gas, and a torque curve that doesn't drop below 575 from idle to 6000, it just keeps pulling. The initial hit is the thrill.

I'd suggest getting it together, get a minitub and some 10.5w's or the M&H 390 tires. Other than that, just learn to control it. Don't try to mess with the bypass valve, it's not that simple; at least on a MAF car it isn't. Not sure if you could make something work with a speed density system.

Get it together, it'll be fun. Although I think a 427 or a 408 might be a better call than a 434.
