Default Interest in a digital knock guage with memory recall?

My (brother, friend, buddy etc... ) is an electronics wiz and is thinking about producing these.

What kind of features would you want and how much would you pay?

We are initially thinking something that will tap into the rpm signal and knock sensor signal and will provide instantaneous display of both and will also allow for a memory recall of the highest KR recorded and at what rpm it occurred. Would also probably look at having a programmable alarm point as well so you can say, for example, if it ever reads 2 degrees KR or higher then beep or light up or something like that.

Lets hear your feedback and if interest looks strong we will begin building the prototype.

Thanks!

Where are you looking to price these? Sounds pretty similar to the ScanMaster from Ramchargers...

The ScanMaster doesn't have recall or the beep, but it can monitor a bunch of stuff.

If they are priced right I am sure that there would be an interest for this.

A Beep or Alarm and flashing memory would be awesome, maybe have it reset the peak KR after a couple mins.

I'd also like to see the O2's in the readout. Similar to a Scanmaster default display, without the extras but with the alarms.

That's exactly what the scanmaster does. When you go to WOT, it records the leanest O2 and the highest knock reading and the MPH at which they occurred. Plus it reads about twenty other sensors. I love mine, it doesn't have to boot up and is always logging data at WOT. Once you have one, you'll wonder how you got by without it. Seriously.

p.s. Audible knock gauges are pretty standard stuff, they run in series with your knock sensor and beep every time the sensor sends a signal.

White Hawk, do you have more info/links on the scanmaster?

I am going turbo... and anything that makes things safer is a plus.

Thanks for any help,

I was thinking about something like this. I see ramchargers has a gauge just like the autometer afr gauges for knock sensors, but I want something like a little strip I can hide a little easier, plus I don't need the turbo 6 logo . A recall would be nice though. The hard part I see is if you're going to display the actual retard amount, you gonna need some way for the user to put their knock attack table in since the sensor just spits out a voltage. And you'll need to have the decay table too if you want the kr readout realtime to compute the change. Nice idea though, Make it cheap and you'll make a nice little sum.

You can get a scanmaster at Ramchargers. It is a simple scan tool (one sensor at a time), plus it does the WOT data logging I talked about in the previous post. There is no Power 6 on it either (although that would look cool). I actually carved a slot for it right next to the cigarrette lighter in the consolea and it looks and fits perfect. I have autotap too, but autotap is a lot more work to run because you have to get the laptop out, run the software, etc... The scanmaster is always on when you run the car, and automatically logs WOT. I still use autotap at the tracks, and when I am making tune changes.

Pricewise, I think they retail for $319, but the put them on sale for $269 every once in a while. Not cheap, but I think they are well worth it.

i also posted on ls1.com

but i am very interested in it
i would like to see the value read in a numerical digits of KR like 1.2* etc.
with a buzzer you could set at a certain point
playback would be alright but not as important for me since i got atap to log playback
i need an instant heads up for every day driving.

i think ls1 speed sells there turbo buick KR meter at $65 so for this one with the features could be in the $80-100 range.
