Many people have great sucsess running with out water cooled center sections. I could say that if you were in a long distance race and were boosting over 10 psi for over 45 min. then you may need a water cooled center section. They are safer and better for cooling. If you are buying a new turbo I would go ahead and opt for the water cooled center section.

Water is not needed. There is more than enough oil flowing through a turbo to cool it. I had several water cooled turbos, and now I'm back to using a oil only. This is for 22-32psi.

I talked to TEC (www.turboengineering.com) about this and they said that all turbo's should be water cooled. According to them, all factory turbo cars are water cooled. If thats true, I'm sure they do it for a reason.

I'd much rather have my turbo water cooled and run cooler. What will it hurt??? I think the oil would be less likey to burn after shutdown.
