Default a few random turbo questions

Hey everybody,
why is it that turbo cars run such high gears? Zombie's car has 2.75's, and runs 10.1!! my grandpa's 69 camaro with a th400 tranny with a brake had a 4500 stall and 5:56 gears and wasnt that fast with a 850 hp na big block (weight plays in a lot but im comparing) i heard it was something about making first longer, but idk.
and second, where does an electric oil pump need to go in a rear mount setup?
and third, where can i get pipe to run for my charge side for relatively cheap?
Thanks for all the help guys
Mark

well the first question is that the gears like 2.73 keep the engine in the power band that turbos like to be in longer and holds boost longer. a NA car needs to get through the rpms to increase speed while boosted cars need to stay under load and to do that you need to stay in gear longer. second question, i cant remeber but sts should tell you in the instructions, i think it goes in the back next to the turbo. third, budget is everything, ebay is cheap in both ways but many sponsors on the right can help you there.

Turbo cars aren't geared any different than NA or nitrous. You gear to reach peak rpm at 1/4 mile trap speed. Period. It just so happens that turbo motors peak at an early rpm (mine is 5500 rpm) and pull alot of mph (mine is 146 mph), so the resulting gear to reach 6000 rpm at 146 mph is a 3.00, which is what I run. I'm sure that 850 hp NA big block probably spins alot higher rpm than that and probably not as much mph, so the required gear is much lower (numerically higher).

yeah turbos work better under load and thats what happens when you run a numerically lower gear plus you usually dont need the higher revs with a mild properly tuned turbo system. really mandrel exuast tubing isnt too bad especially with a rear mounts lower heat.just my opinion
