Default 99WS6.....boost?

ok well i just purchased a STS kit for my 99 WS6 it was 90k on it that car was owned by an older lady before me she had it since it was new always kept up and looked at by pontiac all oil changes and repairs by GM and all the miles are highway miles that she traveled on i got the car with 80k on it and i never abused it well here and there some but i did a cylinder compression test and it varied like 7 psi from each other and when i poped the valve cover off it looks brand new so me running 5 psi in it and occasionaly 8 with a front mount should be ok right? i dont want this to happen

thanks for all the input guys

Local guy in our car club is running stock engine with 5psi for last year or two no problems. I would be a bit worried at 8psi but hey whats life without some risk. The ls1 and lt1 pistons are crap for boosted application. Ringlands are weak, weak. Have some souvenirs of buddies lt1 sts car and another buddies procharged lt1 car. But as said lt1 use same pistons as ls1.
Don't get greedy and stay 5 to 7 tops is my advice. Unless you have money for the new engine if need be.

I think you will be fine. BUT, dont go into FI thinking it will last forever! Your car will eventually fail! Dont you want to have fun untill it happens though?

You sure are worried. I ran 10psi on my stocker with a cam, manifold and springs for almost a year and 20k miles. No problems whatsoever. If you are that worried just put in some good rods and pistons for reassurance. (That is probably not spelled right!)

It's all in the tuners hands, if you get a good tune, you have nothing to sweat.

Me Seriously, I tuned my own car using HP Tuners w/ a lot of help from my friend Brian at Va Speed. They are a good shop for tuning FI cars.

Had my STS installed since March 2006. 5PSI and 15K miles later it's still going well. But, I installed a FMIC and a wideband O2 to monitor the car. Both are mandatory if you want it to last a while. They are almost as important as a good tune.

Check the search on this topic. There's a lot of good info on what exactly you need (fueling, valvetrain, etc) to get it running nice....and safe

Search the name Tlewis on here. He is a sponsor and his sig says that they handle all types of FI needs for the ls1, ls2 crowd in SouthWest florida. I have no personal experience with them, but they do seem to do top notch work and are good people from what I read here on the site.

Found his shop. It is Rev Xtreme to the right in the sponsor's list. They are right in your area I do believe.

Thanks Smokin!

We are forced induction specialists & have a 1,000 RWHP car in the shop right now to look at if you'd like to stop in & see as well as just finishing a 07 C6 procharger. You will be fine on 5-7 all day long with a good tune as mentioned above and our tuner is a full time tech in our shop that knows how to make it safe. Give us a call if you want more info

I put my kit on at 89k and am at 96k now. 7psi, safe street tune, no issues. Just get in and drive. Stock engine, just upgraded the valvesprings, pushrods and fuel injectors/fuel pump.
