5.3 6.0 Ok my buddy just got a 03 5.3 engine he is putting in a S10 and putting a turbo on it. What can he do safely on this engine with a good tune? Also we have a 6.0 cam laying here would it help him any to swap the 5.3 cam for the 6.0 cam? How much boost is safe on the stock 5.3? Thanks guys for the help
Not sure on the cam question, but the stock 5.3 has been shown to hold boost very well. Id say shoot for 8-9 PSI or so. Guys have pushed it further but if you want to be relatively safe then stay around this range. Also, I would say maybe look for a good turbo cam as you should upgrade the valve springs to some comp 918's or better regardless of what cam you use so if you going to be doing new springs you should pick up a nice turbo cam as well. Im sure there are plenty more guys that will chime in though with more advice. Sounds like a cool build and keep us updated!
