How about welding another starter ring on the flex plate? A stock flex plate is pretty cheap, just cut the ring off, and weld it on you flex plate. Should be easy and not effect the flex plate any. Besides, I ve only ever had a flex plate sfi cert checked at national events. Even if you put another ring on, it shouldnt "really" effect it, and if you were checked, they probably wouldnt even notice.

Space out the flexplate and machine the same amount off the converter mounting lugs to account for it

Yeah, I see now. I still think modifying the starter itself , like hogging out the mount holes might work if its that close.

The way I understood it, he needs to move the flexplate closer to the engine, the crank is longer on the flexplate mounting surface.

He's super busy so I'll just post roughly what I remember:

--I believe he flipped the spacer plate around on the flexplate
--Machined the bosses on the flexplate
--countersunk the holes on the flexplate where the bolts to the crank go
--machined 1/8" off of the mounting plate on the converter
--machined 1/8" off of the pilot snub on the converter

I THINK that's about it but I'll have him post the details here when he has a chance.

The converter still has enough to engage the tranny pump?

i would think if you used a 4l80e and a 2500hd 6.0 starter it would all work together.

Yes, it still enguages the pump.
