Default LT1 Oil Return?

where abouts is the "best" place to drill and tap. i know ls1's have a diffrent pad and form what i can see, most are befor the step.

im just wondering how you make sure not to go to low, and if there is any chance that you can go to high and catch some thing *crank or some thing* or wreck the pan??

Here's my assembled motor. Look at the tapped up fitting on the oil pan. That's where Vortech designed theirs to go and where my -10 oil return line will go.

A couple ideas...

If you want to install another pan, cantons have a few holes built in that you can drain into.

You can also put a hole in either valve cover, or drill and tap the base of the intake in the rear. I d remove the intake to do it. You can also drain into the pcv hole in the ntake, but youll need to alter your crank case ventalation then, like using breathers on the valve covers.

If you have a head off, you drill the head, because there is a deep lip at the top. If your clever you can drain into the timing cover pretty easy to, but you have to fit everything together and space is limited.

As long as the drain is completely downhill, and the oil exits into the pan above the oil line, you'll be fine. I like the idea of following Vortech's tried and true solution as per mightyquickz28. In fact they describe the entire process in their install instructions, including the punch and tap to be used.
