PO103 means you are exceeding the MAF freq limit table in the PCM, especially if it's happening at 5800 rpm on a 98 which has a smaller MAF table to begin with so it doesn't sound like a bad MAF to me. Easy fix in the tune and that's just part of the tuning process. Fluctuating idle could be a ton of different things though.

my car had a flucuating idle on cold start up. after 30-60 seconds and an occasional stall it would find its idle. thats with a tune. now 2500 miles later its time for a new shortblock! lol
no codes though, just a bad, very bad number 7

Well, I have checked everywhere for vacuum leaks and I have very steady 22" at idle. I can not understand how I could posibly still have a vacuum leak although my tuner assures me of this. ??? It has got to be my MAF, well, I hope that is what it is!

I just took the car out for a spin and the SES light came on again. It is PO103 again and after some more hard pulls, PO171/ and PO174 pop up. But the later two codes have to be caused by PO103. The car idles better and seems to have more power also. I guess Harris Speed Works is unable to tune it so now I think I am going to get Race Proven Motorsports to tune it for SD.
