Whats sad is I've heard a lot of the LVMS racers say how much better the Phoenix tracks are

I go to the $10 get your person/car searched punk *** kid no track prep street car nights usually. Make 2-3 passes in 2 hours if I get there early then leave. TNT's are a total crap shoot for $50, you usually get 1-3 passes it usually takes 6-8 hours and track prep is inconsistent. They run those retarded Jr dragsters during TNT which eats up all the time.

[quote=speedfreak391;13842491]Well if your looking at the new TCI 6spd auto it starts at 6 grand.quote]

There should be another 6 speed 4L80E out soon for less

Yep, and I remembered the old Buick transmissions (G for Grade Retard, not go! lol) were a great example, just couldn't remember their name till now.

Leaves me to wonder what could be done with modern converter technology, lockups, computer control, etc.

This should be a sticky IMO...

There are a lot of people either confused or blind as to how much better the auto is with a turbo than a stick is. I was once a 6 speed man, but now I have found the light!

Had manual 96ta,97 ta and my 99TT was originally t56

T56 pros.
Can be fun. You are in control of exactly when it shifts. You can run lower back gears with two overdrives.

Cons :had bad luck with clutches, slaves and masters. Had to do drill mod to get into gear at higher rpm. Don't like high hp clutches sometimes they can have heavy pedal pressure, twin and triple discs help in this area had tex twin for awhile.
High hp clutches are usually very grappy when hot. This can get annoying in heavy traffic, going up on driven on lifts. My tex had floater rattle which didn't like much.

General t56 cons for racing and turbos.
You can short shift, misshift,do the three to two by accident, you can hit the limiter. Harder to be consistent with stick car . Hint two step can help.

Harder to build boost in turbo car unless you use two step and antilag.
Harder to keep the boost up unless you use no lift to shift or powershift. BB turbos are better for keeping things spooled between shifts.

Gm should have put slave external like many other cars including the older lt1 cars. Remote bleeders are good things! Drill mod is good thing if you dont' have improved master to slave line think Tick has this?

Autos well you can shift manually if you want to. Can go full manual if you want to but its hard to beat computer shifting in new trannies. You have no overdrive in turbo 400 or glide but do have one in 4l80 and two in 6l80 which is not that common a swap in f bodies yet.
Autos build boost well but two steps still really help them too. A proper stall is very important also to build the boost you want.
Autos obviously reduce driver error a lot and give much more consistency to 1/4 mile racing. Its pretty hard to short shift, misshift , etc with auto unless you are shifting manually. And heavy traffic is a pleasure as is driving in hilly cities.

Autos can be heavy and do take more power away.

But overall am pretty darn happy with my auto conversion. Also now having tough time deciding to go with c6 auto coupe or c6 z06 since z06 is only offered in manual. Could do conversion maybe but wanted to trade up z06 to c7 and maybe they will have c7 z06 auto options. Hope so. Or clutchless manual think they call it.

Personally think t56 and all clutch type manual trannies are OLD SCHOOL tech and should be banished from all new vehicles. That said I do have and likely am keeping my 97 turbo awd talon which is 5 speed manual just to have one manual car in my stable unless get that manual z06. The good news is stock clutches are not that bad to drive around with since they have light pedal pressure and easy engagement usually.

I've had both, biggest issue for me on the auto was MPH, on the street, even with 28's and 3.73's, the 4L60E was out of gear at 145ish MPH. Call it dumb, but 160 is the average here so I would be done before the guy next to me. That is my biggest complaint. In the 6speed I can be at the top of 4th and be within the MPH I want.

Nothing like leaving in an auto though, that heavy pig of mine went 1.32's consistently off the footbrake. Miss that.

I love the way my car drives with the 400, but damn, trying to just cruise on the highway at 80 mph is a PITA.. if I could keep it under 2000 RPMS at 80 mph I would be completely satisfied...

tH400 makes turbos work alot better lol

I just love my 6 speed too much to own an auto. I'm not too concerned with track times, so that's not a big deal to me. Plus I love messing around on the street with it 5th gears races vs cobalts ). I've never had a huge hp car, but plan on it in the near future, and I doubt anything will change. A 6 speed (IMO) is too much fun to give up. For me at least, there is more than racing. I'd be putting at least 5k miles a year on it.

With that said, if I ever wanted to get serious about track times, I'd go with an auto no question.

I sold my T56 and now I'm going for 4L80E. Do you have any control of gear it is in by using shifter? I like having some fun driving from work going around turns sideways, for that I have to put it in 2nd gear usually. Can I control gear somehow in auto? I'm not going with manual valve body which as I understand selects the gear just as in a stick car.

Most F body PCMs I have looked at do a manual hold 1st and 2nd by default.
