I'm beginning to notice how the people that know the least need 10 paragraph long posts to "prove" how smart they are, and the people who know their **** can usually say what they need to in 3 to 4 sentences.
kind of like rolling a 55 gallon drum down a hill, the empty ones always make the most noise.

I also hated the t56 in my GTO, it was alot of fun when it was stock, and awesome on roadtrips, but way too fragile in that heavy of a car.
Now with this car, the 4l80 is the ticket. I have put $0 into this thing, a new filter and fliud and the converter and going on a full 2 years of well over 600hp daily driving/daily beating. When the time comes, i know i can put a new set of clutches in it and a shift kit and have a new trans for $500 for years.
Plus the lockup, OD and a 3.07 gear makes it amazing on street tires, first is so soft i can hook some shitty rubber.

aww shucks.
I might as well add my 3 cents.
in a street only car, I enjoy a six speed. not because its faster, but because its fun to drive. the last thing I worry about on the street is if I can outrun someone or not. putting a stock mustang GT with a 150 shot in its place to make some billy badass look like an idiot just isnt worth the possible trouble that you can get into. its also nice to jump on the highway, throw it in 6th gear and get 28mpg running 85mph.
none of my current vehicles fit the bill for a manual. although, as soon as there is a way to integrate a 6l90 into my TBSS, I'll be on it like stink on ****. The Blazer has a 4l80 headed my way on a freight truck as I type this. I cant wait to get all the details sorted out and run it. 31.5" tall street tires and a 3.73 rear should load the turbo up nicely

Just curious, Have you ever driven a big stall'd auto car? I hadn't either until I put the TH350 in my car. I can do exactly what your talking about with my big stall but I don't have to push the clutch in! I threw more revs at people after going auto than I did when I was a manual

It depends on RPM and converter and gearing. 3rd in an auto is 1:1 like 4th in a manual. Assuming the same rear gear a manual car will do 130 in 4th at 6k rpm at wot. an auto car will do a little less at the same rpm due to converter slip at wot, depending on how tight or loose the converter is.

I must say that the TH-400 has surprised me a few times that I did some roll races with a Viper with unknown mods and a GTO with H/C/I and 100 shot of N2O. I was surprised when I pulled them all the way thru to 125 mph or so. Most of the starts were from around 50-60mph. I would start in second gear and the best thing was I only had to shift once compared to their 2 or 3 times!

has anyone actually identified whats casing the T-56 box's to blow? aslo what makes the TH400 so strong? Could the TH400 gearset take the load if it was rigged to work with a conventional clutch? Is it just the torque converter taking some shock load out of the trans?
basically what makes the TH400 stronger than the T56?
Chris.

An having saturns blow by you on the highway while you go 60 mph at 3k rpm kinda makes you hate the auto, one advantage is just cruising in 3rd at 3k you smash the go peddle and just hold on. All while sipping on your chocolate malt while the other guy is all nervous down shifting, spinning and struggling to put up a good race.

Best bet, regardless of the car, is to build an external pump setup that draws from the bottom rear of the tranny and pumps to the top front of the tranny and sprays the gear set. An even better way would be if you run it to a tranny cooler in the process.

I too am a die hard M6 guy, but when I got quoted $1200 for a twin disk and $1425 for a built TH400 and new PTC 3200, I couldn't pass up the deal to swap.
Car isn't together, but I KNOW it's gonna be MUCH faster with the 3 speed. Now that I have money, I might end up switching to a 4L80
<P.S. Car IS NOT A DRAG car, pure highway rolls for me. Going to add a 12 bolt with 2.73's and let the boost just pile up! 60-130 car in progress
