So you have tested the LSX and an ERL with the exact same specs side by side on a dyno?

i used an aftermarket bbc block with darton sleeves and an aftermarket bbc iron block.the aftermarket alum block was made out of a much higher quality material than the stock ls2 block.the darton sleeve def help ridgidity and bore distortion but dont eliminate it.You have to remember that the alum expands at a much greater rate than alum and is much more flexible.doesnt matter how great the sleeve is if whats holding everything together is flexing and distorting.

It's not really up for debate...Lsx will always be stronger than a re sleeved aluiminuim. your only as strong as your weekest point. i.e. the aluiminuim that the earl sleeves are sitting in. I think that the earl is a great block from the looks of it..I know steve and the ohio boys give them hell and seem to have great results.I think they both have there place.There is no question that the LSX is more durable though.

Depends on how much you want it bored. For our 434 its $1150 for block and specific LSX work, $1250 for a 454.
Our LSX FI 434 is $6410 and will handle all you can throw at it. (with proper tuning of course )

Dang 140 lbs more than my current LS6 block wow. I just got the car < 3400 raceweight.

Warhawk = 133lbs

LS1 = 90lbs

LSX = 225lbs - ~18lbs to bore to a 4.125 = 207lbs.

6.0 Iron ~ 180lbs

C5R block is close to a Warhawk.

I bet the ERL block is heavier than a Warhawk or C5R block with the stronger interlocking liner... ~ 140lbs.

I think the bore would stay much truer but the bores would still shift a few thousandths in the block itself. This is pretty much a known fact when dealing with aluminum motors.

Aluminum expands quicker than iron, iron will always be stronger.
Whats does this do to a bearing, when the housing around it is expanding quicker than the bearing itself? (rhetorical)

no problem,like i said before i just want people to have all the info so they can make an informed judgement on want they need for their application.I'm def not saying one block is better than another-they both have their place in different applications-it's just matters what you're willing to compromise

For a Drag Radial car, since you usually have to be at 3400# (+/-), I'm thinking it's worth the extra weight for the LSX block (with high boost). Not to mention it's cheaper.

Some of that 30hp loss was also from the loss of thermal efficiency also correct? No doubt on the strength though, i know Moran has always liked the steel blocks better.

All depends on the car,Phil's car is a little heavier on the nose than i would like @ 3300lbs,but my car @ 3000lbs i have 100 lbs of ballast on the frt to get the correct weight,so the iron block would be perfect-i only have the alum because i had it from another project

I got some info back from Sean at ERL.

ERL LS2/LS6/LS1 with billet main caps and 4.000 bore: 130 lbs

So looks like 77 lbs is the difference based on Onfire's numbers.

ok just my 2 cents but save the weight!!! cause 25.5 cage to 7.50@3600lbs and to go faster you need to be 3200lbs or less!!!!!! 25.2. ect.. I.E. all the racing going to 1/8 mile... kinda sucks but the lsx will be stronger so there are pros and cons both ways.. in my case i need to add weight to the front so i am going with the lsx block.
