Default My new intercooler. Pics!

I took my car to a local chassis shop to make me a new front mount intercooler setup. I was using EPP's front mount setup, which is a great piece for the money, but I just wanted to upgrade to something else. A couple of the things that I wanted are.
1. The boost bypass valve located before the intercooler
2. Aluminum piping
3. Bigger/more efficient core

I wont have any before and after dyno numbers, as I haven't had this setup to the dyno yet...But I am prety confident it should have some descent gains, including much lower IAT's.
I dont know too much about the core, except that my chassis guy got it through Procharger. He thinks it flows about 1800 cfm. Its 4.5" wide. The blower did have to be reclocked so we can reroute the piping.
One thing that I did notice right away, is that the boost bypass valve is much louder under part throttle. The mondo valve is now located inbetween the blower and the intercooler, so I think thats the reason for it being so much louder. Is there such a thing as having the bbv too close to the blower?

Nice setup! Do you have any track times before the swap?

Unfortunately I dont have any track times or dyno numbers before the intercooler swap. I would have liked to have before and after results to compare the gains if any, just wasn't able to do it. I'll be sure to post results with this setup .

How much RWHP is the EPP front mount good for? do they make a bigger one in kit form that fits nicelY?

I dont know about rwhp, but there are people that have been 8's wth the same intercooler that EPP uses, so it should be more than enough for most peoples goals. I dont plan to go 8's, I just wanted something a little different.

Why did you want the bypass valve before the intercooler? Ideally, you'd want it as close to the throttle body as you can (with it functioning properly). That way when you let off the gas and it opens it doesn't creat lag once you hit the gas again. Think of having two hoses. Take one and stab a hole in it near the faucet. That hose is going to let all of the water from the hole forward leak out (part throttle / TB hole). If you plug the hole it's going to take it a second for water to start flowing out of the hose again.

Now with the other hose stab a hole near the end of the hose. It's still going to have a larger volume of water in the hose because of the difference in length. When you plug that hole the water will almost instantly start flowing out of the end of the hose again.

I can partially understand not wanting to heat soak the intercooler, but... only really on racecars with A2W ICs where you're pakcing ice. I think the intercooler looks great. 4.5 inches thick is monstrous.

I got the filter from AFE. Do a search on google, they are supposed to flow more than K&N..

As far as the placement of the bypass valve, I was recommended that by a few people so it doesn't heat soak the intercooler. I do understand what you are saying about having it as close to the throttle body as possible, but so far it feels more responsive than it did before. Under WOT the air will move so fast, I dont believe it will make a difference in throttle response. If it does, I could always have it mounted like you have mentioned, but I dont think it will be a big deal.

Jimmy P I really like how you routed your IC tubing, I have had it planned to do mine the same way. The only other person I have seen do theres off the TB like that is Kp on here. IS yours 4inch tubing?? Do you have any pics of where it goes under the frame rail? Didn't know if I needed to move anything.

Looks Great BTW.

Thanks for all the coments. Yes it is 4" tubing. The outlet hose diameter on the F1C is 3", so there is about a foot or so of 3" tubing that becomes into a 4" before it enters the intercooler.

I will try to get you more pics of the underside. The chassis guy wanted me to remove the stock coolant overflow tank, and my meth tank, and have the piping coming up from there. I realy didn't want to have to find a new place to mount my coolant tank and my meth tank, so I asked him to see if he can route the piping from under the frame rail , which seemed to work out ok.

It can be done. There is still plenty of room in my engine bay, but thats mostly because the radiator is moved forward, and I am not using the stock fans. The car will be on a lift early next week, so I will be sure to take the pics for you.

Looks great bro-I agree on putting the bypass before the intercooler-why send air into the cooler and heat it up?

I can drive the car for 45 minutes, and place my hand on the intercooler, and its cold. No heat soak. When I had it after the bypass valve, the intercooler would be hot to the touch. So I stand by my decision to mount it before the intercooler.
