Default small displacement turbo cam

this will be going with an iron 5.7L (5.3 block) and MP T-70 front mount turbo... probably only around 9psi boost...

the cam currently in is cut for n/a and some bottle.... I know the overlap is going to kill me with bleeding boost... I was looking at something smallish in the mid 220's duration and high 500's lift with a reverse split and wide LSA.... let me know what you guys think. Current cam is a 224/227 .576/.588 113+3

I've already been spec'd a 228/222 .581/.581 116 any other suggestions??? just trying to gather as many opinions as possible to research and look at.

Thanks in advance... this is my first stab at a custom grind f/i cam...

Just about anything in that range on a 115-117LSA is gonna work awesome. Heard the CheatR cam is a good one too due to high LSA, although the split between intake/exhaust is kind of up there.

thats about what I figured, Thanks for the speedy reply! what about the reverse split vs. single pattern vs. traditional split pros/cons??? i know the cam choice isnt quite as critical in a motor with boost as a few lost hp can be made up with a psi or two... but I would like everything to run as efficiently as possible.

For your stated goals, your current cam will be about as good as anything else. Don't get caught up in the "bleeding boost" BS, especially with a cam as small as your current one. Remember that some of the "cam wars" threads on here really only amount to the same amount of power as plus or minus less than half a psi of boost.

this probaly is to do with a different brand of engine.
we dynoed a tt sbc , std heads, std valve size , flat tappet cam
75 dyno pulls over 4-5 days
355 cubes
around .510 total lift

3 cams used
237 / 237 @ 114
256 / 245 @ 114
258 / 258 @ 114

ALL cams made the SAME power, give or take a bit due to different air temps etc , from time taken to change cams..

the cams did change the characteristics with the engine coming onto the converter....

don't get wound up in cams too much
for street stuff.... go with the general consensis

BUT if a race application, yes,,, lots in cam changes
eg 258 @ .050 dur to 276 @ .050 ( wooohoo)

Like I said... I know the current cam will "work" but I'm going to be replacing the pushrods and timing chain and a few other things while I'm doing the install of the kit. I might as well put a better cam in while I'm at it. The springs aren't very old (new 918s) plus I'm going to keep the lift fairly mild.

What I'm looking for is a cam that will serve my purpose better than my current one...

I would stay with the one you currently have. If you are set on a swap, throw a z06 cam in it.

When I went from a hotcam on my stock ls1 to an LQ4 with a stock cam, the rear mount spooled WAY quicker. Lower compression, less cam, and a few cubic inches wouldn't make THAT big of a difference, so I agree in choosing the right cam for the application.

I really don't want to just throw a Z-O6 cam in it... I'd like to have something a little more tailored to what I'm doing...

An XE-R 226°/226° 113° has 0° overlap at .050" lift. Get that one with your choice of ICL and have at it.

I like my 222/222 114 +4 .581/.581 for a street turbo car. -5 or -6 degrees of overlap, drives well, car makes good power.

no others?? the cam will be stabbed in my 5.3 until it goes pop (125K mile motor) then when the motor is rebuilt, it will be reused. I dont think the few cubes will make any real difference since the motor will be boosted....
