Zombie are you running a two step like lingenfelter has. that can help to buld boost and that toy also lets you play with timing which is bascially like an antilag function. Those two things combined should let it bulid more boost especiallly with a trans brake. Course too much is also not good if the tires can't put it down to the ground.
Are transbrakes streetable things for daily drivers. I will likely be switching to auto next season and am taking in all these converter and tranny related threads.
I was thinking vig because very happy with them in my 96z28. Then was thinking yank..now not so sure. For tranny am thinkinng rossler maybe and was not sure if wanted trans brake option. I don't want full manual valve body either and am going 480le for sure. Not turbo 400. My car is street oriented not strip car. And want it to stay as streetable as possible. Thats why went pretty mellow on the cam.

I have seen some good times with the yanks for sure not sure as much with the vig converters.have to go back and look over the boosted lists..they are gone but still were there if you searched??? They were handy to see what people ran with what combos.

where is your 1-2 and 2-3 shift rpm? more rpm will slip less.

at full boost my yank 3400 stalls at about 5300 down to about 10% at 6500

stalls at about 2900 flashing it

Do you plan to run your car at Orlando or Bradenton this year Shawn?
Hey,i have a Chance converter in my car-Marty gave me a killer deal on it and i couldnt pass it up-has been flawless.

I'm committed to helping Phil at Bradenton and with the work load i have i doubt i make Orlando,I may try and go to Shakedown-but we'll see-just finally got this combo going down the track without blowing the tires off

ATI is in my back yard...one of the main reasons I went with them

Yup, that's cheap, but designed for someone elses setup. Kinda defeats the purpose having having one spec'd to my setup.

I use a 900.00 ATI MRT, 8" at that, less than 5% slip @ 7000 engne rpm, been in the car for four years now. It will stall to 5500 on the brake with 5psi and it drives amazingly tight for what it is.

But with your rear end gear something like I have obviously wont work for you, the right torque converter is so important when you are looking at ETs it isnt funny. You arent a newb, call around and talk to a few different converter companies and pick the one that makes the most sense to you and understands your specific combo.

Ricky, blower cars run converters that are more like n/a converters, and turbo cars run tighter converters if given the same ET potential.

I agree with Onfire.
Call Marty and ask him what the fee is to restall the converter.... Off the top of my head i thought it was $200......
So the prize of his converter and the restall VS a new one at a higher price ....
you might have to do the numbers to see what works out for ya.

Depends on the blower, positive displacement blower converters are similar to turbo converters. Weight of the car/gearing/stroke also comes into play.

I have a brand new bolt together Neil chance that I would sell for $1000. Was setup for a glide/turbo 400 to be making around 1000 rwhp and using a trans brake. Paid $1850

I will put our FTI/RevXtreme converters (no off the shelf, each custom made for the car) against any out there. 1 free re-stall & 2-3 day turnaround.

We have been running alky fueled Top Dragster & Super Comp for years and have tried most...with the best luck in the past with Trans Specialties spragless, but these are the as good as anything we have ever run. Have broke several ATI & JW's in the past.

Call PTC they have very good converters for turbo cars. My Friend has used PTC for 4 years in his 67 Camaro with 101mm 18degree SBC. He just has it freshen every year or two. They got it right the first time.

bumping an old thread...

What are the advantages to converter size?(not stall size)

I currently have a 9.5" Vig that I would love to reuse(after being restalled), but I heard 9.5 isn't eff. enough. That I would need to use a 10.5".

Does anyone know if any of these small shops would restall my current vig? Not really happy with their Customer Service.

There are several converter companies using 9.5" cores (for blower and turbo cars) in 1300-1500hp range.

9.5" works fine as long as the company making it knows what they are doing. My PTC is excellent and drives better than my old Vigilante 2800 even though this one stalls to 3600.
