Most likely not lined up or the idler locked up if its hot. Could be rubbing on something also, you can tighten those belts pretty tight and not snap them.

Dunno, I assume it was running for a bit before it broke? Any chance something fell in there? Its really hard to just snap an 8 rib belt in two unless something is wrong.

I guess you could go too tight but it would have to be really cranked down.

May want to make sure one of the pulleys isnt rubbing on something. If it broke while cranking something is locked up.

Can the idler spin freely by hand? Check everything that the belt touches and make sure it all moves freely before putting the belt back on. Then once the belt is on, make sure it isn't rubbing on anything it shouldn't be. It sounds like the belt is rubbing on something for sure if it is hot. I don't remember my belt ever being warm but I don't think I ever touched it either lol. My belt never snapped though and the D1 was making 14psi so something caused it to break. Are your pulleys perfectly aligned? That would also cause friction.

I know some longtime racers who have snapped belts and they get to belt tension that you and and I would never get to.

Lol, oops. Trust me I know how you feel, I've been making all kinds of careless mistakes lately. At least it's an easy fix, just tighten the bolt next time.

Ricky, welcome to the reason I went NA I know I told ya' that FI is what separates the men fro the boys last year (and then changed from FI to Na myself )........so good luck to you bro for hanging in there!

Glad you found the prob, but re-check all the stupid stuff. Make sure the idler isn't binding binding w/ the new belt and that there isn't a bolt, harness, or something else interfering w/ the belt clearance. Do this before starting by rotating the crank w/ a wrench. You'll be fine once you make sure everything's straight this time

Good move changing to the 8-rib too. That's long overdue............

BTW, no track times yet, but from all the embarassed Porsche and Viper owners in town my new VA Speed setup is performing as advertised
