Default Should ddnspider go bigger???

Ok, iv been harassing dd for a little bit now cause i think he should, i know his car is already fast, but i think since his motor is pretty much Bullet Proof, i think it would be awesome if he were to go bigger. he currently has a 76mm turbo on his 383, and i think he should throw a GT4788 on it and make some serious power, i know he wants to be fairly streetable and everything, and he likes not having to wait for boost and he already has some traction issues, but i think it would be cool to go bigger since we live in florida where everybody has all kinds of money and drive exotics everyday, or 1000hp supras. What do u guys think?

383? Of course he should go bigger... Not even a question. Single 76's are for stock cubes.

id like to hear from the guys who voted to stick with the T76GTS.my main concern is the turbo kit is a t4 flange setup.si im pretty sure my only easy upgrade is to swap to a T88.otherwise id have to rework the hotside to fit a t6 flange, and ive only got about an inch between the turbo and the radiator

ddnspider, I voted to keep the 76 for a few reasons.

1. If it aint broke, don't fix it
2. Street car = fun to drive
3. I believe you are still stick shift so fast spool = fun to drive

My perspective is a little different than most peoples. My joy comes from driving a working project, not constantly modifying and working on it.

My T4 ST80 seems to be making lots of steam at only 12.5 psi. 370 cubes here.

I went back and forth from the decision of a 76mm to the T88 and this was on a 355cid... in the end I chose neither.. I went with twin GT3582R's and the Tial SS turbine housings

putting it together now.. My main reason was wanting the turbos down low and to be able to have two 3" downpipes rather then one from an in front of the engine mounted single. (the twins are engine bay mounted down low next to the block, not STS type) so I am curious to see what this combination is good for.

I liked the old 74mm turbo on my car though it had great spool and made tons of power for the street.

I did always wonder what a T88 would do though.. maybe borrow one from someone to try????

Chris

Zombie basically nailed it for me....the car's area under the curve power is awesome.it is still a stick car and im in positive pressure at ~2500rpms depending on gear. The only time the car doesnt run is when im tinkering trying different stuff, otherwise i rarely have any issues with it.

My setup is typically the same, when you have a reliable, big power and fun to drive turbo car you can enjoy almost any time, Don't F' it UP!

I'd still have my T76 if it wouldn't have died. Thankfully I have access to a good fabricator and lots of space to work with.

3200 rpms, stall only flashes to 2800 though so it's a bit miss matched. I have to wait an extra second to get boost compared to the T76 if I'm too low in the rpm range. The T76 was seeing 1psi at 2800-3000, can't build boost below the stall speed so comparing stick to my th400 probably isn't very useful unless you wan't to compre time from WOT to full boost. A looser stall or smaller housing could drastically change how fast my car sees boost. 14psi is seen at 5500 which is what the converter was flashing too under that boost which is also useless to compare due to the converter. I can tell you this, in 3rd gear 1:1, at 70 MPH in 3rd 20" vac cruise at 2700 rpms, if I go WOT I have 14psi by 85 MPH at the latest. I have video of it spooling if you want to see.

ST80 was about 1" larger in all dimensions compared to my Innovative T76

you really don't want to neck down at the exhaust outlet on a turbo as I learned from experience, it can really kill flow. If you can go 3.5" or 4" off the turbo go for it if you wanna play.

and youre a 370 ci?but an auto correct?i would imagine my 383 would spool rather quick then.i should ask DR. Turbo what the spool time difference would be.

EDIT....already found his post
"Spool up was within 150-200 rpms on every hit...depending on the tuning. So in most cases you won't know it.... "
