Default Which are proper arp head studs

I got 408 but not sure which head studs are needed. they list two for pre 2004 and later blocks.
Is there a date stamped on the engine blocks I don't have my engine right in front of me yet and want to get the parts on the way here.

Can you tell from examing the block what head studs are needed?

What type of head bolts came out of the engine? All the same length, or some short, some long. That will tell you. All same length are 2004+, different is pre 2004 (like mine).

I got the engine from Canadian Performance. Short block only . I am not sure they know what year the block was from mabye its a new block. Their main engine guy passed away and left things a bit messed up. I will either find the block date code or
put something like a straw in the holes and figure out which stud kit I need.

Few other questions are coming to mind. I don't think the engine has freeze or oil galley plugs. Anyone know how many are on the engine so don't miss any.
Are they same locations as ls1 engine?

and do I have to do anything fancy to the bottom can I just bolt on ls1 oil pan and isn't there a windage tray and stuff i there never had my ls1 engine apart in the bottom. or do I need to get some specific 6.0 iron windage try or something. My engine has callies crank and callies rods think arp mains and arp rod bolts.

pan should just bolt right up, you can check by installing it and turning the motor over by hand a couple times then remove pan, check if their are any marks that hit the windage tray if so you might have to modify it a little

Ok will do likely tommorrow too late tonite.
Reading about some year blocks not working with newer 4l60s.. not putting one of those on but might go with 4l80e hope it works with that.? Figure it would being a truck block.

So I assume I use all the ls1 oil stuff. ls1 windage tray, ls1 dipsticks and dipstick tube and of course ls1 oil pan ..and ls1 oil pickup..never looked at ls1 bottom end. Where do the windage tray bolt to..
sorry about the noob questions. Only done more top end stuff on my ls1 in the past..cam ,intake manifold ,headers..did oil pump but only dropped the pan down far enough to put the pump in.

Ok found a site with pics and see how the windage tray goes on there. Hopefully it will work ok with my setup.I have to look so you don't actually loosen the main studs I dont think shoudl be able to just put nuts on top of the existing think arp main studs.
Really have to check out my new engine more thoroughly.

Obviously you use all ls1 stuff so it fits the car and the dipstick reads correctly.

so its safe to say its a 2004+ then. just to make sure if you have any of the long gm head bolts stick the vary long one and put in the (well i forgot which holes the med size goes in so) just try sticking them in all the lower and middle head bolt holes if it goes all the way down in the you need the 2004+ studs. if the bolt doesn't seat all the way on the head you have the 2003-. good luck!

remember to do this with the head on

You need to know the year. Had a problem with my 1st 6.0 block. Bought a brand new block from GM. When to use the same ARP bolts in the new block - wrong; we need a different set. Make sure you get the right ones. Any of the sponsors can help.

It seems to have code A312 then not sure if thats 20 or what. So according to my research that would be 1st month 31st 2000 block.
Have question if thats true. I read the 2000 blocks don't bolt up to 4l60 trannies.?
I plan to run t56 or 4l80e so would I have any problem using those with this block if its indeed a 2000 block?

Would the code be like A3102 if it was a zero two block
That symbol after the 2 not 100% sure its a number is like a solid circle not open circle.
anyone shed some more light on this..
So if is a 2000 then can check head bolt lengths as some are shorter than others?

So from more reading pretty sure its a first month 31st day built in 02. Which is just fine with me. Full speed ahead on the build.
