i really like his idea but could never justify spending that much[i'm a frugal fireman]...anyway, I was looking through the new Summit bible and came across those electrical exhaust cut outs..they come in various diameters [2.5"..3.00".].....i have a rear mount set up and was thinking of putting a single cut out inline with the rear turbo as close as possible....these cutouts can be set up so they are only partially open at idle and use a toggle switch/Hobbs/rpm activation to open it full ......i'm thinking it will allow the turbo it to spool earlier and more affordable[most are way under 200 bucks]....opinions???

more than likely you will burn the motors out on those pretty quick opening and closing the cutout again and again.

I found a version with a full life time warranty....anyone think it would have similar benefits??...fast spool like a small turbo and full potential at horizontal open.

Your talking about using them as a wastegate. Why. A wastegate is $80 and automatic. Back to the butterfly valve idea. I need this bad. I have a Holset HX50 with an internal wastegate and a split housing 17cm...which equates to 1.2 A/R. It'd be awesome to move the gate controler to give me variable A/R cause I can only spin this unit to 5 psi on stock ls2.

I've talked to you at ohio valley before, I think the idea would be awesome to try on your car. I would think the butterfly would work much better over a wastegate.

Hey, anyone still contemplating these? I agree that $500 is out of the question. I may be willing to make some for testing for a few people since my setup won't be done anytime soon. By the way I am a cnc machinist so I can make them quite easily. Shoot me a PM if anyone is interested. Keep in my mind though I don't check the website very often.

I aquired a Holset HX50 turbo and am getting ready to DIY a rear mount setup. Ive gone out on a limb by removing my stock fuel tank and installing a 15 gallon fuel cell in the trunk (flush mounted 20hr surgical proceedure). Its amazing how much room I now have just above and behind the rear end, because of the elevated location im hopeing to eliminate the use of a scavenger pump. The only drawbacks so far is funding the waste gate, blow off valve, and at least another grand to finish off the fuel system......pump, reg, lines, fittings, ect. fun fun!!!!

I also have a Holset HX50, and a Holset WH2D, both of mine have the exact same compressor and turbine. If yours has a 17 (cm) stamped in the exhaust housing like both of mine do you'll have a little trouble spooling it. 17=1.2 A/R. I could only get 5 psi out of mine in 3rd gear and almost none in first. If its a divided housing you may want to try blocking one side off. I never got around to that before I moved to a MasterPower T-70 which can triple the boost.

Your HX50 didn't come with an internal wastegate? I'd try it out first if it has a big housing before getting a gate. I wasted money on a 6 psi gate because the internal OEM is 25 psi and the turbo never made enough boost to need one.

Good luck with your project. What kind of car is it on?

Will this work on a divided flange like my HX50 or must it be a twin scroll? What is a twin scroll? What do they come on?

I believe a twin scroll has a divided flange and stays divided all the way to the wheel. I think they are one in the same..could be wrong though.

that butterfly idea is pretty neat and looks like it will flow allot better than the wastegate idea.
