Default chrome downpipe

hey whats up guys i was wondering if it would be a good idea to chrome my downpipe (its mild steel 4in diameter takes up half the engine bay so yeah this thing has gotta look good) in other words if i chrome my downpipe will it turn colors and look all crappy. What are my other options to get my downpipe a polished look ive thought of converting to stainless and polishing it but id don't have experience with this high temperature stuff

A high temp ceramic coating will hold up much better than chrome.
The high EGT's of a turbo engine will discolor the chrome in a hurry.
Talk to a good coater to see what he can do for you.
I have heard that there are very bright silver coatings available, but they will only hold up if the inside of the pipe is coated with the high temp insulating black.
I don't have the names of the coatings, but I am sure a professional coater will know the best products to achieve the desired result.

Good luck!

You need stainless or aluminum to get a polished look you want.

You can't use aluminum for exhaust tubing. Stainless will turn brown once it gets hot. He needs ceramic high temp coating and it will look nice

+ 1 for ceramic coating.... chrome will eventually crack due to time and all that heat

Ok, so I wouldn't use it on a street car. I guess with an open down pipe, track car, you could use it, but that's about the only way I would use it. Can't see it having a long life in daily driver boosted car.

The stainless can be repolished after it is heated up and it will shine up again.

I dont believe anyone makes a high enough temp silver color that people are used to seeing on headers, it will dull and fade over time. There is a high temp black coating, but thats not what you are looking for.

I think you can take care of it by just repolishing, dont think any sanding is needed.
