New turbo arrived, is this normal?

Default New turbo arrived, is this normal?

I opened the box and seen that on the wheels its grounded off. Everything spins smoothly. Is it for balancing? Also is there anyway to confirm what turbo I have? I bought the ebay kit and you can see there is quite a difference between the two.

Huh did you get two turbos..? So you don't know what the garett is ? Obviously you should use the bigger one. Or are you planning on using two different sized ones sequentially or something ?? Anyway hope things work out for you the parts fit, etc. If that is not a top quailty intercooler might want to check it for pressure and make sure no leaks.Some ebay ones blow apart at pretty low boost levels. Not saying you can't put together a decent kit from ebay. Tial is good stuff as long as its not a knockoff. Lots of tial ,greddy and other knock offs out there. Guys have problems and don't know why..well..knock offs usually don't work right.

You still need a gate it looks like that is tial blow off?
Local guy did a kit from basically ebay on his third gen..think master power turbo..not sure on intercooler or blow off or gate. It is working decent though for sure he ran 11.23 at 125mph so far and has more left I think. Best of luck with your build.

I bought the ebay kit and the small turbo is what it came with. Don't worry, I'm not using that thing.

The larger one looks like a GT40 or Gt42. What is it?

its a gt4294. Which I screwed myself by buying this because the downpipe is too small on my kit.

I have a GT4202 for my 93. I dropped it off at a local diesel shop / garret dealer / turbo rebuild place to have it checked out. While I was there I looked at about 20 GT42s and flipped through the whole garret catalog with the guys who work there so it looked familiar. The DP in your kit is probably a 3 inch. The outlet is 5 inch. You can use a 5 --> 4 --> 3 inch reducer and trim some of your down pipe. If you don't mind me asking how much did you pay for the turbo?

I measured the outlet its 3.5" and with the v band its 4.5"

^ That's a good deal as long as it's in good shape. I bought mine on ebay for the exact same price about 6 months ago and it was trashed. Hence the reason I was at the turbo place.

Maybe, I need to remeasure mine. I could have sworn it was a 5 inch.

Here's a funny fact that I learned yesterday. The compressor covers have those little flat spot my the outlet. That is where they mill off the Detroit Diesel logo. They use the same turbos they sell performance wise as they do for diesel applications. The turbine housings on the diesels are set up for an internal wastegate. That's the only difference.

I just measured it. The inside is 3.5" and the outside of the v band is 4.5". It's a big *** turbo.

My Garett 76 has a 3.5 DP outlet, I thought it was kinda an odd size, why not just a 4"?

there's not way you fitting that big thing in there with the ebay it. Not without standing the radiator straight up. Even then i think it'd be close.
