Default 98 fuel pump swap

Bought the walbro255 and I looked at the install instructions at the top of the forum page. It only refers to 99+. I have a 98 and was wondering what the difference is. Is there a link or other instructions that i could get from one of yall? I for sure want to use the same cutting method used in the 99+ install instructions. thanks.

you will actually have to cut a much bigger hole because of the way the pump is mounted in these cars....other than that the pump just plugs in and you will have to cut the peice that holds the pump and use a hose clamp to hold it in..once you tear into you will see what i mean...any thing else just pm me or something and i will see if i can get some pics for you

Do it right and remove the tank so you can clean out any debris as to not destroy your new pump.

Yes, please do it the right way.

The difference is that 98's have metal tanks and 99+ are plastic.

ive heard that doing it the "right way" requires dropping the back axle. is that wrong?

Thats how much you need to cut. As for the pump, I just used two hose clamps to secure the pump in its place around the metal portion.

I cut the same hole that 98Camarorod did and it worked out fine. Just be careful not to cut any deeper than you need to get through the metal so as not to hit the lines. I modified the 2 plastic pieces that hold the stock pump in so I could use them on the aftermarket pump. Either that or you could just clamp the new pump in. All in all it's a very easy job imo.

Is it like the LT1 Cars the way the Pump is setup in the Metal Tank? I thought all the LS1 Cars were plastic Gas Tanks.

Yea, it was a bitch to get those two on the top part like you have there. I didn't want to bother with the dip in the panel like you have so I just got a few more cuts on my hands instead.
